Why when our educational system is falling behind the world in every area do the religious right want to further dilute our chi;ldrens education,do they want to finish destroying our childrens education so our children are at a disadvantage scientifically to every other person they will have to compete with in a global economy.

According to the Religious Right, we aren't falling behind. (I know! I know!) The thing is they view science, especially Evolution, as competition. They hate competition and will do whatever they have to in order to get rid of it.

I wouldn't mind them teaching what ID is about, if for no other reason than it is an excellent example of what science is not. It certainly doesn't base it's findings on something it can't prove to begin with. It wouldn't go on about unicorns if it couldn't even produce evidence they ever existed.

The Religious Right is trying to push America (and anyone else they can) into a Theocracy. They want to keep people stupid... easier to control them.

What you should be asking is why the school system is wasting time teaching college level theories to children who can't read very well, write horrible and can't do math without a calculator.

Maybe if we concentrated on the SOLID subjects and left the soft mushy subjects for college or 12th grade college majors who actually have a 12th grade testing score we'd have smarter kids.

Since OPEC controls the global economy and most of OPEC is Islamic, maybe they should learn something about that religion, which has it's own views on creation. The more you know about the people who control the economy, the better you can survive within the economic structure.

See, an education is a well rounded one, not just a one-sided biased view point. Islam does not subscirbe to the scientific view of creation anymore than the Christians do, but seeing as how the Christian don't control the economy as the Islamics do through OPEC, it's worth knowing the sociology and psychology and philosophy of the entity that drives inflation through the control of oil prices.

I wonder if the average 5th grader can name half of the OPEC member countries and identify them on a map!

Nice generalization. Not all Christians want creationism taught in the classroom. I do not, and I am a Christian. I am ALSO a conservative.

What's wrong with our school system has NOTHING to do with religion, but rather what our society has become. Tenured teachers don't have to worry if their students aren't learning; they HAVE to be kept. Most kids don't have both parents in the home to guide them. Our curriculum is outdated, and does NOT prepare students for the outside world. Many children are not being taught basic morals at home OR at school.

Compare test scores from forty years ago to now. We are FAILING our kids! Isn't it obvious? I would like to see a change, yes, but I still don't believe religion has any place in school, unless ALL religions are taught.

The rest of your question is a moot point. Christianity has no more destroyed our children's education than atheism has, and I certainly don't think public education could get much worse.

It is absolutely correct. Why would you want our children to only be given ONE point of view if it were not right? The World is not ahead of our children or thier education. We are the only nation in the world that educate ALL of it's children. The rest of the world test and exclude the majority of the young people from being educated. Our students are competing with their best on those tests. That does not reflect well on those tests because our averages are a bit lower than their BEST STUDENTS. You are measuring apples against oranges. Please think before you speak. Have a great day.

I am a Christian...and NO I do not want to DESTROY our children's education. I am a 21 year old female Christian. Life if what you make of it. You know our country was based on religion. We came to this country because of religious persecution. You shouldn't speak so negatively about something that teaches people to treat each other with respect and love. Religion does so much in so many ways. It teaches about morals and principals that in a lot of ways we have lost. They teach the theory of evolution in schools... and that's not exact or completely been proven. It's a theory. How did even the first molecule come about. They are saying from nothing we made something. That doesn't make much scientific sense. The world is going in a direction where a lot of people are forgetting how to treat people... and just because not everyone is going to be a scientist there are room for people who care and can do great things in lots of other ways. What is wrong with teaching another theory...l think that's not right to just show one way or one theory. Narrowmindedness never leaves room for creation and innovation. Christianity is a part of history. I believe everything part of history is important. I wouldn't be worried about the Christians destroying anything in the children of our future.

It seems that the "Church of Scientology" would have more power than I had given them credit for... What with Tom Cruise, John Travolta, Kevin Costner, Marie-Lisa Presley with her mom and so many big stars, it wouldn't really surprise me if they had their hands in that but the last time I was asked to teach, they made it quite clear to all that nothing of religion of any kind was permitted in the schools. Not even the mention of the word "God" or "Jesus".
Many students would ask me about my beliefs and the most I could do was to ask them to look for a certain word in the dictionary, if they wanted to understand for example why I didn't cry over a dead loved one, I would suggest that they look up the word: "resurrection". The students would truly appreciate such gestures and would recognize the absurdities of the hypocritical system for what it was. I love them very much and look to the day when they will be properly educated by teachers who loved them all and truly took the time to really help them in becoming happy adults.

Any attempt to prove Evolutionary thought, including 'Intelligent Design" (as it is presently purportrated by the Scientific Communities) is of the Gnostic Schools of thought, and is contradictory to the Christian Model of Creation.
I am only conversant in 25 other attempted Schools of Thought in regards to Evolution, and NONE of them hold any more water than a large scale sieve. ALL can be discounted easily, and quickly.
Makes you wonder WHY they need to find more and more attempts at Evolution to get it to work, doesn't it? However, they still persist, even though they know it CANNOT fit all the criteria. Even Darwin renounced Evolution as entirely UNWORKABLE before he died.
Ask them 'WHICH' School of Thought they are following, and most of them have NO idea, let alone what are the boundaries of each attempted THEORY.
Let us NEVER forget that a THEORY is "Something which can NEVER be Proven", or it becomes a Fact of Life, and Evolution will always remain a Theory for that very reason.

"they will have to compete with in a global economy"

As easy as you believe this they believe teaching intelligent design"in our schools is good.
Who are we going to compete with China, the world is over populated with people that make less in a year than we make in a week. So how in the world could anyone in there right mind and of the educational value of today's standard believe there was ever an intelligent designer. I mean are we reseeding to the dark ages, yes even in the US there is an over abundance of workers, people they treat us as a commodity. When you will learn this you will demand that the global economy stop. How many starving babies will it take for us to understand that these visions are not ours, but the vision of the rulers. Surly Iraq is not your vision!! Surly getting paid the wage of the working Chinese is not your vision and surly believing in Christianity is not your vision.

Oh. Now it's the "theory" of intelligent design. Your insecurity and baseless rants once again expose your weak positions. I'll tell you what- since your fools rant is just a tired rehash of all the other "arguments" you people miserably fail to establish on the basis of verifiable "scientific evidence", why don't you and morons like "weatherm" forego any further embarassment and go to the following website-www.giveshare.org. Once there, go to pages 6-14 and lay this absurd "theory" forever to rest in your "minds". You'll be glad you did. So will the rest of us who will never again have to endure such childish behavior. Oh, one more "fact" for you - SANTA CLAUSE ISN"T REAL EITHER!!!! GET OVER IT ALREADY!!!!

VERY well said!
The idea that there is an "intelligent designer" to the universe is so utterly asinine that I have to wonder if the proponents of this idea aren't fundamentally retarded.
Let's face it, ID is nothing more than christian mythology masquerading as science. And it's not working either thankfully. People are getting better educated and they're starting to wake up to the fact that there is no god, no pixies and no leprechauns.
