Would you agree with this? Do you think Religion would be anywhere near as popular if it weren't for the usually-glorious 'afterlifes' (e.g. heaven) it's followers supposedly experience?

Also, do you think another purpose of religion is to provide comfort for relatives of those that have passed away and 'gone to a better place'. Also the fact that when one dies, they will join their loved ones in (.eg.) heaven?

Religion is a fabrication/imagination of great psychologists to put common man's mind at rest about issues, of which even they do not have an answers. A person should never blindly follow the rituals mentioned in any religion but use his common sense and conscience to guide him through in life.

There is no doubt that many people would not stay in their religions if the promise of heaven and the fear of hell (which you forgot to mention) were not there.

The original purpose of religion was to provide a guide on how to get back to God. Unfortunately, many religions along the line lost their focus; some were deliberately infused with ideas that would keep their members in the fold.

Nevertheless, there is one religion, ECKANKAR, that teaches how to visit and enjoy the benefits of heaven while still living on earth. In the process, you get to know truth first hand.

Religion does not promise anything. Being redeemed by the Blood of JESUS and confessing HIM as LORD does. Redeemed is the term given to one who has been forgiven and bought back and the price was the death and Resurrection of GOD's own SON JESUS, that who so ever believe in HIM should have eternal life. As for me and my house we shall follow the LORD. The comfort for my loved ones when I die will be that we will all be reunited with CHRIST in the future. I tell them all to wait for me inside the eastern gate or I'll see you at the HOUSE.

i'm a Christian and that i will savor your perspective. i might agree that between the 'advantages' of the Christian faith is that dying and the afterlife is not any longer something to be stricken approximately. incredibly, it must be seen the spotlight! genuine Christianity is approximately believing in God and His Son, who died on the bypass in our place to forgive our sins. So, from this perspective, a existence in Heaven must be seen a 'advantages' of living a Christian existence. on the different hand, this 'dying coverage' is a few thing you notice in lots of faiths and you only would desire to verify suicide bombers to be certain the different element of the coin, and what happens while it incredibly is taken to extremes, with such people believing that they earn a place in heaven by ability of polishing off such atrocities. Returning on your question, those people who would call themselves Christians just to purpose and get into Heaven would finally end up extremely disenchanted. God will check out the coronary heart, no longer in basic terms the badge you have pinned to your self.

i beleive that it is not just for the assurance of a better place or for loved ones. i myself am a christian, and i follow Jesus because he loves me. he talks to me when i pray to him and lifts me up when i am down. sure - a nice place to go after you die is great, but living to worship Him is even better. I would still believe in him and worship if it was that we would eventualy all go to the bad place (eg. Hell). everyone dies eventualy, and a good place to go over a bad place is always prefered.

Of course it is!!!
It is the old reward/punishment system and the instilling of fear plus the added comfort that people need, the increased hope that death is not the end.
Poor misguided people. Gullible and weak.
