Looking for a free design on a tribal dragon with the wings spread open in the shape of a heart, almost like the wings are enveloping something or someone for protection.

go to the artist. they love drawing up original things for people. thats what they do! and it will be different from what everyone else has!

Definitely check art books out, there are many tattoos like that and designs would be easy (for a good tattoo artist) to change to your specifications. Think twice about the tribal there are some many other options, like a realistic looking style.

go to china and ask people of china about dragon heart tattoo they may tell you

go talk to your local tattoo artist. the pictures they have on hard drive and catalogs etc etc will be much better than some internet print off you waltz in there with anyways.

go to the tattoo studio and tell them what u want, your gonna have to go anyway!!
you will find that often what you want and what looks right are not one and the same, they will help you to chose the right way to go about it.
you don't get charged for asking and that way you get to sus the place out, shop around !
