the sad thing is that now saying your vows has become a tradition instead of a promise. the only reason people even say them at all anymore is because they think they're suppose to. obey is a word that has been given a very negative meaning over the years. women hear it and they htink that it means giving up all personal freedom instead of giving in to the desires of the desires of their husbands every now and then. while i do not strictly follow every word my husband says when he tells me to do something i seriously consider if what he is saying sounds reasonable and if it is within the realm i listen.

FIrst off I don't believe in Obey, I only believe in honor and cherishing, and the word Obey should be omitted of the marriage vows. Obey is such a strong word. When you marry you promise to love one another and become one, not rule eachother. Marriage isn't about who has the upper hand and control it is about working together and being one and sharing.

Humm, my vows didn't say to obey. Love, honor, and cherish. LOL
I admire and respect his decisions as he is the head of the house. When he asked me to do something, like when I was going to break at work with a person who smokes and I stopped smoking. He asked me to stop going to break with this person so I didn't breath the second hand smoke. Now this makes sense, "he said why did you stop smoking to just go breath her smoke." So I say I listen and obey, it is kind of a little joke between us but I do listen and follow what he has asked me to do. I guess I'm just an old fashion girl who goes against the modern day ideas of what is acceptable. I still believe the man is the head of the house and I'm a traditional woman who follows and obeys her husband.

Ok, this is 2007. Women aren't suppose to "obey" there husbands. There are too many dumb asses out there that take advantage of submissive women. Husbands and Wife's are suppose to make decisions together, with each other. Neither of them are suppose to tell the other one what to do. I think that each should respect the other but "obey" is for the birds. Like my aunt said "My dogs obey me, I don't obey my husband!"

I didn't know that obey was in wedding vows any more. It wasn't part of my promise.

This is just SO out dated, women these days are independent and work and earn their own money (well I certainly do anyway) so no way am I obeying anything other than the laws, no one tells me what to do, as an adult I make up my own mind and then it is only me to blame if something goes wrong, and I learn from my mistakes.

Obey was omitted from my Wedding Vows. I am an adult and I did not marry my Father so I did not need to obey him.
