it actually x squared - 1 = 0

x^2 -1 = 0
adding ont to both
x^2 = 1
square root both
( don't forget + or - root )
x = +1 or -1
snother solution
factor
(x-1)(x+1)=0
eithrer x-1 = 0
x = 1
or x+1 = 0
x = -1
solution 1 , -1
