why some country have 240 v ac

In the US we have 2 hot line and one nuetral. unless the wiring is going to a dryer or electric range or central AC it is a 120v line(one hot and the nuetral.

The advantage of using only 240v which is how most countries outside of the americas do it is that you can use less copper because the same devices will work at half the current if you use 2x the voltage because the watts are the same. Of course the device has to work with the higher voltage or it will burn out or catch fire.

US household service is actually 220 Volts. There is also a neutral line brought in which is ground and is between the two legs of the 220 supply. . You can pick either of the legs of the 220 supply and use the neutral as the return and you get 110 volts which most things run off. If you use the two "hot" lines you get 220v which is used for higher current appliances like dryers, stoves and air conditioners.

It's actually 220 most appliances & Electronics only run on 110......
