Hi there, I am a Veterinarian Technition and hope to help! At our vet clinic we do not recommend Iams at all. Not only do they practice and fund experiements which are considered animal cruelity (should be abuse), but they contain rather high levels of the drug Phenobarbital. Phenobarb is the drug used in the euthanasia of animals (putting to sleep). Iams also has allegations against them (after months of investigations) for using road kill and euthanasied pets whos owners asked for them to be mass cremated/buried. That is how the levels of Phenobarb get into the food, which could cause liver problems amoung other things. Personally, I would never ever recommend Iams/Euka. to anyone. I do like what PETA stands for, although I believe they take things to the very extreme, but here is a good article on the animal abuse going on at Iams at the expense of innocent dogs: http://www.iamscruelty.com/ I have read articles in our clinic (vet journals) about the abuse and it is sickening and absolutely heartbreaking. Iams performs surgeries like removing parts/whole stomach, removing limbs, etc. without any anesth. or pain medication (well, that would cost to much money!) and have not feed dogs until they starved to death to see how long it would take for them to die the horrible death. I would actually stay away from most pet food sold in pet stores because they all contain the same "meal" (chicken, lamb, beef, pork). That "meal" is nothing more than chicken beaks, chicken fee, lamb hooves, lamb skin, cow hoves, cow intestines (basically whatever people don't eat), and dogs should never ever have ANY pork products! Not even pig ears- sorry :) Hope this helps! If you are looking for a better grade food then I recommend Timberwolf Organics (www.timberwolforganics.com). It is expensive, but you certainly get what you pay for!

Nope - it's a pretty bad food.
Try some brands like Innova, Solid Gold, Timber Wolf, Blue Buffalo, Chicken Soup. They're expensive but worth it.
And what makes a good dog food? Check this out - www.dogfoodproject.com Great informational site.

It is not the far worst but it is not near the best either. For the price of this dog food you can choose a healthier dog food that do not have the grains and fillers in it.
innova, canidae, solid gold, canidae, california natural, and dick van pattens formula are some good choices. There are several more out there but this is just a few.

Not at the present time, this is due in part to the recent recall by the company Menufoods, an international petfood manufacture. While Iams is on the list of petfood that is being recalled, along with many others, I suggest that you consult either your local Vet. or pet food retailer. If you want further information on the recall please visit the link below:

No, it used to be good, but after it was sold to procter and gamble, the formula changed so its not that good anymore. Moreover, it's one of the pet foods that got recalled.

No - especially not now with all the recalls. If cost is no option then try INNOVA dog food.
