I want to record to my computer from my video. The problem is do I need to connect all the leads on it before it will work?
There is a s-video lead, a video lead, a L (mono) lead and -audio-R. Because there is a s-video do I need to use the video lead to before the deluxe will work?

I think the setup you are talking about has both an S-Video and a composite connector. In this sort of situation, you can use either the S-Video or composite video connector to get video from one device to the other. Neither of these connectors carries audio data. The only common connectors to carry both audio and video are SCART (in Europe) and HDMI.
