Just wondering, this past winter I felt awful, depressed for no reason at all, Xmas was the worst xmas I ever had, In the past couple of weeks I feel great again, getting up in the sunshine etc its great, which makes me think I may have developed SAD, I mean there was no cause for my depression, I just felt a sadness type cloud over me.

Could very well be....1000's of people do, its a VERY
common malady, especially in places where its cold, and dark and dreary much of the winter. Miserable, don't have any energy, no motivation, everything sucks, etc etc
Very common "symptoms" of SAD.
Good thing is there are things you can do:
1) talk to doc
2) install fullspectrum lightbulbs in place you spend alot of time.
3) Consider light therapy (little litebooks that you sit in front for a few minutes a day---lots swear by them)
4) Vitamins c and b's are very important, and a good multi that has d (sunshine vit you know). Eat well.
5) try to get outside even for a short walk --can make the world of difference. Hard but worth it

Take from one who knows first hand....you don't have to suffer.

I have felt exactly the same over the winter and have also been wondering the same. I had no energy to do anything, but all of a sudden I'm back on track! I think next year if I feel the same I am going to go to the doctors and find out about it.

no no anti-depressants! Buy yourself a sun lamp utra-violet light and that will help boost your vit A and E! Try and find an activity that will boost your self asteem like meeting up with friends! Failing that book a sunny holiday for around Feb time then by the time xmas has finished you have something nice to look forward to!

It sure sounds like it but you should talk to a doctor. One thing that helps me is having a full spectrum light. It is a type of light bulb that is the most like natural sunlight. It can help reestablish the body's functions including timing of sleep, hormone production and body temperature among many things. These lights are commonly used to treat SAD and other types of depression.
I strongly suggest you go on line and do research. It was such a nice gift from my friend who is a scientist and also swears by them! You should not have to spend another season feeling down!

Yes probably . It is slightly more insidious than general depression. I think it is because we do not respect body signals , perhaps we should be in semi hibernation.
Do you want to go to sleep in the afternoon , is your sleep pattern disturbed, craving Carbohydrate, walking around dazed , even Driving in a stupor .

The best advice I can say is go to the Doctor for some Prozac . Also consult a Homoeopath , in the meantime look at web site ABC Homoeopathy which is very extensive , you must have patience here ,but you will glean something use full
Final advice don't fight the sleep urge . it is very damaging to deprive your body of sleep

Yes, it sounds like you may have. My boyfriend gets it. Sometimes ends up ringing me at 3am just crying his eyes out for no apparent reason, says that he's okay now & toddles off back to bed. He's fine in the summer. He just gets really depressed over silly things in the winter. Vitamin D helps.xxx

It may be a one off, but it could also be SAD. You will either need to more to a sunnier climate, or see what happens next winter. If it recurs at the same time it might be reasonable to try a suitable lamp. You could contact http://www.sada.org.uk/.
