There could be any number of ways to treat or handle anxiety. The quick method would be to simply obtain a prescription for an anti-anxiety medication like Ativan. That would certainly relieve some stress.
But the more natural methods would be to avoid activities, people or places that create stress and anxiety in your life. If this is impossible then you should exercise regularly, avoid too much caffine and/or nicotine. You could also certainly look into meditation or similar methodologies for stress reduction. Or you could look for support groups that might be near your home. Just having someone to talk to that understands what you are going thru can be enough for some people.
In any case, you will have to find what works for you, one of the above or a combination, only you will know.

Best of luck

Social anxiety can cause these feelings, which can also lead to severe depression,
http://www.socialanxietyinstitute.org/ds...

if not you could be suffering from Generalized Anxiety
Disorder..http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/general_anx...

There is hope; I've been there, and still am there, it is a long, hard struggle. I recommend
Cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/cognitive_b... worked best for me, with mild anti-anxiety meds. I suffered from social anxiety for over 15 years. I've tried individual therapy, and group therapy and studied psychology for 10 years, as a profession, but also with the hope to cure myself.

Depending on your comfort level, you could go to a psychologist that practices CBT and specializes in anxiety disorders, seek a group therapy, or create one. Usually those that do attend the group therapy are a bit more high functioning because as you know, it can be difficult to speak in a group.

Another idea is to see if there are any local research studies being conducted that you could participate in.

The program that finally worked the best for me is this one: http://www.socialanxiety.us/findinghelp.... and I was lucky enough to have a structured behavioral group to go along with it. Sometimes the people that actually attend this program come back home and form groups.

I recommend a mild anti-anxiety med in addition to CBT therapy.

Any questions, let me know ... I can't tell you how much this has improved my life!

My top suggestions are:
1. Talk to a doctor first and most importantly
2. avoid all drugs including caffeine, alcohol, and tobacco
3. try deep breathing exercises
4. when you are having anxiety try making a list of everything you are grateful for and everything that is working in your life. Fear and gratitude cannot exist at the same time so if you can REALLY get into a state of gratitude you can shift your focus.
5. You can try a program such as "Attacking Anxiety and Depression" by Lucinda Bassett. They are tapes you listen to at home. These are great because she offers a money back guarantee, and are available at www.stresscenter.com.
OR
get the book "The Anxiety and Phobia Workbook" by Edmund Bourne available at Amazon.com.

I wish you luck, I know anxiety feels terrible. You deserve to find a solution and have a fun, happy life.

Avoid cold medications, illicit drugs & caffeine products (coffee, green or regular tea, Excedrin, cocoa, chocolate, Coke, Red Bull etc.) There is a chocolate substitute made from Carob, and 2 coffee substitutes: Caro & Ecco. Herbal teas, like Chamomile, are OK. Practice for 20 mins daily, and when needed, the method at http://www.selfhelpmagazine.com Meditation room; try it out; mantra meditation; repeat the word: "easy", or gaze at a lighted candle in a quiet, darkened room. i've had it for 15 years now or so. It sounds scary thinking it will never go away, at least for me it won't but everone is different. there are lots of medications you can take. mostly anti depressants then that triggers the same things that cause anxiety, there are some anti anxiety medicines also but they can be quite addictive. excersice helps , meditation, and lots of rest., my anxiety gets so bad if i don't sleep. you should see a dr and get put on something so it doesn't get worse
