The reason why I ask, is that I answered a question, by someone, called 'Beckham' earlier in the week - 'Should black people improve their skill in fighting for their rights', asked he/she, ending with '...they are obviously unskil(l)ful in this respect'.
It seems if black people remain silent, they're open for criticism - and if they speak up, they're accused of 'attitudes' or being 'mouthy'. Can they win?

Was just perplexed at people asking such questions in 2007. Thank you for your answer, James B - I'm from the West Midlands, and if you want to see black people shine, this is the place to come, but was wondering if 'Beckham's' oily splurge was a belief of many? Some of my best friends are not black...but as I have lived in Coventry all my life, which means my respect for all races are as intact as they were when I was aty school in the early eighties.

Yes, Floppy - a 'subculture' which is also being taken on by all races - spotty, hooded white cats - with the hand movements and grunts, anyone?

I personally do not see a colour, race, size or religion when I speak face to face with another person.
It is the so called 'enthnic minorities' who push the phrase, "you are being racist", whenever you disagree with that person, therefore it is 'that' person who is being racist/sizeist/sexist etc., etc.

Something does need to be done about attitude though with the gang mentality of today-----says me who grew up in the mods and rockers era!!!!! Thankfully both of my children had nice friends and funded themselves through university working part time.......Its all down to who the youngsters befriend, local social belief and parental belief that hold them back from making a fantastic future for themselves.

Signed----single parent for 18yrs (children now 24 and 22)

The quotation from 'Beckham' - 'Should black people improve their skill in fighting for their rights' conceals the answer. 'Should black people improve their skill' - Yes they should. Look at other groups of immigrant who have arrived over the last hundred years.
Numerous Jews arrived in the first half of the twentieth century and worked for poor wages in sweat shops, retail and other semi skilled jobs. They ensured that their children were educated and now Jews have the highest representation of any group in the genuine professions.
Asians from Uganda arrived at Heathrow with little more than the clothes they wore. Like the Jews they made the best of their circumstances and are mainly doing very well.

There have been sufficient generations of Blacks in the UK to have progressed in the same manner as the Jews, Hindus and Sikhs but they have failed to do so. The problem is not with rights or opportunities, it is with poor quality raw material.

Nowadays, the "fight" is not on the streets-like it was back in the 60's.

It is in the schools and the "commanding heights" of the economy. I think we should take advantage of living in a developed western country like the UK to educate our children, mentor the young effectively and prepare them for the challenges of the 21st century.

Sorry my friend, but I'm black and let nobody step on me or abuse me in anyway. Believe me, if I have something to say, I will say it. Anyway, if any black man would get out and get an education there is noway that someone can hold him back from doing something. I myself, have a degree in Technical Studies and now working on a degree in Business. If you want something bad enought, you will get it. I have never waited for someone to give me something for free, I had to work very hard for it.

Accused of being mouthy by who exactly? are you racist against people other than black people, i'm sure this country is the most pro-active in promoting equality and opportunity for ALL races.

Trevor Phillips (the racial equality chief) has said that blacks are creating their own "sub culture". They seem to be shattering Darwin's theory of evolution!
