I just read online that about an hour ago two local teens from my area were killed by a middle aged drunk driver doing 120 mph, why do people drink and drive when they know that someone, including themselves could end up dead? Is alcohol really worth a life?

Alcohol impairs judgment. A person who is legally drunk may not "feel" drunk, causing them to be over-confident with performing tasks that require alot of coordination. I'm sure the drunk man didn't have this mind, but what sucks is that a life is lost before anyone learns their lesson. Unfortunately for me and you, that means we can be innocently killed in an instant by a drunk driver- regardless of our defensive and safe driving skills. That will forever be one variable we can't control.

alcohol isn't worth a life but the thing is that all reasonable thought process goes out the window when someone gets drunk. Their not thinking " Hey If I Drive now when i am drunk i could kill someone" Their Thinking "Wooooo Hoooooo Lets See What this baby can do since i have no fear of anything right now" When most People get drunk they feel like their on top of the world and can do just about anything due to the fact of there is no pain or punishment process at the time

Because when they drink, they think nothing can go wrong. When most people drink, they get bolder with the stuff they do and don't care if they hurt someone or really don't care about themself. All drunk drivers should be tried to a post in the desert, feed nothing but bread and water until they learn their lesson. By the way, my 24 year old nephew and his 1 year old son was killed by a drunk driver about 2 years ago.

I will never know. I will never understand how anyone could get behind the wheel, knowing the risk, and with all the information we know these days about it, yet they still do it - they still get behind the wheel and drive while drunk. And they KNOW they should not be doing that - they know it even if they are drunk. Come on. They just lose their sense of whats real. But they still know right from wrong! And then some one ends up dead. Someones kid. Oh that is so sad I cannot even imagine what these families have had to go through just because of someone deciding its ok to be careless, just this once! WRONG!!!!

How about why do people read and drive? Watch DVD and drive? Do make-up and drive? Eat and drive? Sleep and drive? Talk on cell phone and drive? And a whole lot of other things and drive?

Because they feel invincible and don't think about consequences.

Actually this is not drinking and driving that killed the teens in your case, that's going 120 mph where is was unsafe to go with that speed. This was a case of poor judgment, and its roots are much deeper than just drinking, despite of what MADD people want you to believe

Because they're stupid.
When drinking heavy amounts of alcohol, the person feels 10 foot tall & bullet proof.
Can do anything, & dont get in their way.
A drunk does not think. A drunk CAN not think. That is why I say a drunk is stupid.
My prayers are with those families who lost their loved ones due to this stupid drunk.

That 's a good question. Personally, I don't see any redeeming social value to drinking alcohol. I don't condemn people who use it. I just can't see putting myself at a disadvantage.

If people see the need to utilize something that reduces their inhibitions, and diminishes their judgment and coordination, they ought to be smart enough to stay away from machinery, or other potentially dangerous devices.

when they are drunk they don't realize what they are doing. they think they can drive just fine. its sad. no drunk stops and says, wow I"m not walking very straight, or wow my thinking is a little slow right now. they don't think. they just think they are normal and fine to drive. alot of drunks don't even realize how drunk they are till they leave a party or bar also.

The word "M O R O N" comes to mind.

And why repeat offenders don't get life without parole is beyond me too.
