can rumors and gossip effect a relationship even if both parties know they aren't real. Example if the guy in the relationship is the kind that thinks hes a playa and a pimp, can the rumor of his girlfriend cheating, even if not true break them up. And on the other hand would a person stay with a girl if he knows she cheated but he thinks hes to fat to find somebody else.

A rule of thumb is don't listen to gossip, don't believe gossip, and don't spread gossip.

It's a great test on a relationship, for sure! From a positive view, if both of you can overcome the rumors and all the trash talking from other people, you'll come out better from it. You'll develop a closer, more trusting relationship. Gossip and rumors are perpetuated by immature busy-bodies who have nothing better to do but to harm other people.

And yes, low self esteem will make people stay with their partners, even if the partners did bad things. Don't you watch Oprah?

This depends on maturity. If you are both young, you will immediately believe the rumors and gossip. Matured people takes a while, investigate before they believe.

Yes, I know gossips and rumors have broken up relationships.
