Biodiesel is an alternative to petroleum-based diesel fuel and is made from renewable resources such as vegetable oils or animal fats. Chemically, it is a fuel comprised of a mix of mono-alkyl esters of long chain fatty acids. A lipid transesterification production process is used to convert the base oil to the desired esters and remove free fatty acids. ...

An environmentally safe, low polluting fuel for most diesel internal combustion and turbine engines. Can be mixed with petroleum diesel fuel and stored anywhere petroleum is. Made from fresh or waste vegetable oils (triglycerides) that are a renewable energy source. Both commercially and privately made around the world. Relatively safe and easy to process when conscientiously approached. ...

Bio diesel is an alternative to conventional sources of energy(diesel). Many experiments are carried out in this context. The petrocrops that can be used to extract the bio-diesel are from families-Euphorbiacea(Castor Riccinus communis),Asclepiadacea,Apocyanaceae, etc. One common feature of these crops is that they contain high molecular weight carbon compounds with higher percentage of carbon. This makes them useful as fuel and alternative to diesel. This alternative is cost effective as the oil is extracted in conventional manner and same diesel engines can be used. This alternative is non-polluting and efficiency in nearly 70% as compared to diesel(40-50%).But still more research needs to be done.Try web and books for further info.
