First of all, there's an implied dichotomy in the main question. Most people associate godliness with goodness; i make no such association.

I don't know that Christians are able to distinguish who's evil and who isn't any better than anyone else. Look at all the German Xians who loved Hitler. As for who's godly, since i see no hint that any god even exists, i wouldn't know how to tell. I suspect Xians don't know how to tell either, other than how often the candidate name-drops "God" during the campaign.

I don't bother praying, because i never get an answer anyway. What i do instead is look at the candidates voting records, if applicable; their positions on the issues; and any serendipitous clues about their honesty or dishonestly.

Our Glorious Christian Leader has raised another factor: how likely the candidate is to attempt to install his religion into the government. This alone would have been reason enough for me to vote for John "Safe, Legal, and Rare" Kerry, had i been living someplace with electoral votes. (This is actually a generalization of a specific issue: There's a local politician in my community who runs on a school prayer platform. Thankfully, she never gets anywhere, because most voters in my community don't rely on the public schools to teach their kids how to pray.)

Ungodly people have their ears tuned into deceitful words lest they may hear " What the Spirit says to the Church " and be converted. The natural man does not receive the Spiritual things of God neither can they understand them. It is all about " The lust of the world". Looking at the surface and not into the "deep".
Christians are instructed to pray for the leaders.

Theirs no such thing as an evil person everyone has a reason for what they believe and do. He does believe god talks to him but it’s really just him. And when you pray to god it's really just you. Hence why everyone’s god has a different opinion. And no one prays to god without having a doctrine in the first place. And congratulations you realized bush is incompetent woohoo you’re a genius. Perhaps you should work on punctuation and grammar now.

People can be deceived . If we have God than we must have the devil........Lucifer knows the Bible better than we do. He is the father of lies.....If you don't have a good knowledge of what God says then you don't know that Lucifer uses Gods promises and words and distorts them to his own purposes...God talks about people of the church who shout God God and then when they die God says I do not know you because they were even deceived by their own words....It is only your opinion that Bush is evil....who are you to judge...God says Do not judge, lest you be judged....Do you read the Bible? Do you know when your being deceived by Lucifer...Yes pray in everything you do, even when you ask a question at this site......

are you serious?

I hope you don't just pray, that you actually read up on what the people stand for on important issues.

Really I don't mind if you believe in prayer, but believing that if someone is a poor choice in office got there because of lack of praying you really do need mental help.

Because we're imperfect too. Christian's aren't better or even smarter than non-Christians. We simply have accepted Christ's sacrifice and seek to live life according to His teachings. We're not perfect. So if you want the answer to your question, it's the same as it would be if you were to ask why anybody does those things. Because nobody's perfect.
