Paul Cezanne painted the hill called 'Mont Sainte-Victoire' many many times in all seasons and weather. From the first time he came upon the scene he was obsessed with it. The paintings he made of this mountain are a record of the man's contribution to the world of art. By using the same subject over and over again he reveals more about his thoughts and processes. Phenominal!

Monet. He had a half dozen canvasses going at one location on the same subject and every half hour he'd set the one aside that he was working on and resume the next when the light was the same as it was the day before when he was working on that particular canvas. I know for sure that some of his "Haystacks" paintings were painted this way. I saw a series of them at a show at the Virginia Museum of Fine Art a couple of years ago with this explanation of how he dealt with the dilemma of shifting light in his "en Plein air" works.
