He was famous in the 1990s, I think. I may be wrong. I haven't watched boxing for awhile, and maybe he's still around. Can any boxing fans update me on this boxer?

Fascinating answers from everyone so far, especially Santana. I wonder what exactly Golota's "inner demons" are? And did they in fact win, or does he just need more time to sort himself out?

Mike ~
Three months ago he walked into Buddy McGirts gym and trained there for two weeks. He asked Buddy "If he would train him" and Buddy said "Yes" they shook hands and the deal was made. Andrew left Buddy's gym and never went back. He did however call Buddy and say "I have a lot going on right now, but I will be back to the gym to train" Buddy hasn't heard or seen Andrew since. This is all according to Buddy in a interview he gave with Fightnews.com

The thing about Andrew is he's very volatile, he's his own worst enemy. It's too bad because he could have been World Heavyweight Champion at least twice (Bowes fights) but his inner demons got the best of him.

Thanks for the question Mike.

He's been inactive since losing to Lamon Brewster in 2005. He's not officially retired though. You're right, he made waves in the heavyweight division during the 90's and fought for the title several times. However, his reputation as a dirty fighter and lack of mental toughness in a fight hindered his success.

Golota was never great. He was just another big bum who could hit if he got lucky landing a clean punch, which was seldom except against worse bums.

he joins a pantheon of other overrated bums like Gerry Cooney, Randall Tex Cobb, and 2 Ton Tony Galento.

Blogbaba was at Golota's fight with Tyson in Detroit, then I lost track of him. It wasn't a good night for Andrew. Santana gets another thumbs up from the blogbaba, thanks for the update.
