I am a lifelong schizophrenia outpatient in the USA. Electro- Convulsive Therapy (ECT) for schizophrenia is not much used here. Neuroleptic drugs like Risperidal (risperidone) are used to control hallucinatory symptoms and they have worked for me. I am still taking neuroleptic medications and have not had an hallucination in over 10 years. I have been able in the period (40 + years) I have had the disorder to live a fairly normal life. I worked for 15 years and attended 2 universities. I was on medications the whole time.

My opinion on Electric Shock Therapy is that it is a brutal way of treating a disorder you do not understand. It is like hitting a sick person in the head with a club in order to cure him or her.

I do not understand what you mean by NGO's (non-governmental organizations ?) but my recommendation is to discontinue ECT and start on a regimen of neuroleptic medications along with talk therapy. There is hope for you.

Good luck, good health, peace and love!
