I tried to have a home birth, but things didn't go well. The midwife started pitocin at home (illegal). She refused to transport me to the hospital. I guess it was a matter of pride. I finally said it was my baby and I wanted to go to the hospital, so my husband took me to the ER. All they did was start me on another drip with no pain relief for hours and hours while labor failed to progress. The anesthesiologists were busy with trauma patients. Finally got a rushed epidural and had a forceps delivery. Total labor was about 36-38 hours.
I was told my daughter was in "transverse arrest", which means she was facing the wrong way, failed to rotate properly, and got stuck. It also meant the experience was "severe unremitting pain" (http://www.gentlebirth.org/archives/postrppr.html)
That was worse than breaking my pelvis.

The worst pain I've ever had has been a result of my endometriosis whenever it acts up and now a newer situation that has been going on for almost 5 months. I've had the pain get close to a 9 on the scale for evaluating pain several times.

I thought about this often. It would probably be when my hand was in a pot of boiling water.
While heating some water, it slipped my mind how hot it was.
It was like putting a chicken in boiling water. All my skin melted right off my hand.
The pain was SOOOO intense. It was so bad, it required a trip to the emergency room.
There has been a bad toothache here and there, but my hand being boiled was the worst.
I haven't made a mistake like that since. ;)

Ouch! That sounds really awful!
My worst was a few years ago when I had an operation that caused the surgeon to open up my abdominal cavity. I came out from under the anesthesia too soon, and it felt like I was having an autopsy conducted on me while I was still alive!

twice, once when I was about 20, my right testicle swelled up from a urinary infection to the size of a grapefruit, i had to be hospitalized on "I.V. Anti-biotics" for a week, it was embarrassing and painful but, to my surprise, instead of being ridiculed, the nurses were very nice, and cared for me well, I had a very bad infection, thank God for anti-biotics or I would have gone to the next world.
Last week, It was all ICE here, I put on Ice cleats to work outside, I ran in to cut a wizz, and when I went to go back outside the ice cleat bit the wooden step on the stairs (both hands full of course), and I did a cartoon fall and bounced down the stairs on my back (gaining much air, knarley dude), I was in so much pain I could'nt move for a few seconds, my wife ran over, she thought I hit my head, I said "move my arm, she did, I said Push on my right shoulder blade, she did, I said "Damage control reports no broken bones", I rolled over like a lump of sh-t, and got up in much pain, it hurt for two days, I never fell where I could'nt move ever before, scary !

You've got it - dental pain. I've been in two very bad car accidents, I've had a serious burn and both of my knees broken, but...one little tooth was the worst pain I've ever endured.

I had really bad period cramps once. They're usually pretty bad but that time they were the worst. I took like 5 tylenol and it still didn't help much.
