I disagree with the judgement that meditation is the best way to live tension free.
There are so many more possibilities than meditation.
However, with respect to meditation, I would recommend Transcendental Meditation - preferably without getting tutored by anyone, because the prices seem to have gone sky high!
I paid my money years ago, and then told someone my mantra. I could have got a new one, free, but I didn't.
Years later I selected a new mantra for myself. It works for me. I have controlled obsessive counting, for example.

Priyanka,
The best way of meditation is to to keep yourself away from this world for few minutes and this is possible by doing the following
1) Keep mum for about 15 minutes and do not talk with anyone
2) Sit in a corner of your house and close your eyes for 10 minutes
3) Do not attend any phone calls or mobile calls for 10 minutes
4) Close the door of your room and tell everyone not to disturb you for 10 minutes and sit on the floor by keeping you eyes , putting your legs to together

As a buddhist i know all about meditation...first you should set aside a 10-30 minute time frame specifically formeditating (u can set a timer if u want). Sit on a cushion on the ground in a quiet area and sit in a comfortable position. KEEP UR BACK STRAIGHT.
now, focus on your breathing; this the most important sensation of your meditation. Other thoughts will frequently try and enter your mind, but you need to resist the urge to follow these thoughts, and concentrate on your breathing.
gradually your inner thoughts will subside and your will experience a feeling of complete relaxation and inner peace, which clears the mind.

Close your eyes, after sitting still in a quiet place, loosening your tight clothes. Breathe long, slow, deep breaths..........in..... .out.........in ..........out......Imagine yourself in your favourite place.
[It can be on a beautiful Sun-lit beach, a beautiful clearing in the deep forest, or up in the green mountains, or any place where you felt VERY happy and peaceful earlier]. Visualise it clearly. See it in all the colours, and the sights and sounds and smells which accompany it.
Enjoy it. Bask in its beauty. Let the thoughts come and go,like clouds passing by. Do not try to force your thoughts.
And when you are ready to end the meditation, count silently ....4...3...2...1....Open your eyes! Don't talk or walk briskly at once. RELAX!
That is the best way, I have found.

The question is like asking readers to make you learn French or any other foreign language you donot know through this mode to enable you to write a book right away. Just like you require a French teacher for learning French and many years of hard work for getting a command over the language, you need a spiritual teacher to make you learn the basics and advanced techniques of meditation.

Find a quiet, peaceful place.
Arrange your body in a comfortable position.
Pay attention to your breathing. In, out. Slowly.
Try to think of nothing at all. Thoughts will inevitably creep into your mind. Don't worry about it, let them creep out again. If your mind wanders, refocus on your breathing.
I suspect that finding approaches for dealing with stress during day to day life will reduce the tension you hope to dissolve through meditation. Good luck!

thats gd that u wanna practice meditation...
this wl help u to relax n knw urslf betr...
if u hvnt done this earlier its betr u join a camp 1st bt stil u cn do it on ur own...u wl enjy it...
first of all get into a peaceful room n dim the lights. then play some very light music n try to get urslf comfortable on a sofa bt remember nt to lie down bt in upright position with ur back straight. then close ur eyes n chant 'om' . try to focuss on it. many othr thoughts wl try to invade bt dnt give them any attention bt try to prevent them patiently. aftersome time u wl b so emerged in ur thoughts that u wl forget the word u were chanting. n this wl gv an imense pleasure.
practice this for 15 to 20 minutes or for more time as per ur wishes n capabilities...after that whenevr u r thru with it jst tk a deep breath n rub ur hands with each other n then bring them to ur face. put them there for a minute or two n then slowly open ur eyes n u wl feel gd abt urslf...

it is very difficult to be free of thoughts in this era.
one of the best aasan for meditation is shavaasan, just lye down flat on ur back with hands and legs out stretched.it gives u some amount of flaccidity.best time is after u return from office.best music is a soothening one flute, santoor (remember call of the valley).do not go for i-pod and such stuffs ,listen in ur music system, let it reverbrate in the room.

yeh!! sit down in a calm place with ur legs fold. if u r in the garden try to listen to the birds chiruping at the initial stage and then when u r calm enough try to dream a light ball like a big twinkeling star just in front of u!! change the colors of the twinkel with ur desire. then think about the god for a while and the moment u r living in instance!! when all these things are done concentrate on ohm http://aura.zaadz.com/photos/3/24188/large/ohm_01.jpg
and concentrate on it in ur mind as long as u wish!!
similarly if u r doing it in home the play a very calm music. a trance of sea waves or flowing water without beats and then continue........................
