Why can't they just be honest & let their partner know how they feel & try to work things out so that the relationship can last longer? Or straight tell the other that you don't wanna be with him/her anymore?

Humans are weak.
We are so used to everything being instant because everything is served instant:
Instant Coffee
Fast Food
Internet
Cell phones
Microwaves, etc.
When someone gets the urge to have sex...that urge also must be satisfied instantly. Doesn't matter who the other person looks like. Just as long as the desire for sex is complete. It isn't until after the act, people begin to regret.

You already know the "cake and eat it too" syndrome.
For some people it is strictly a power and control thing. They feel that have the right to hold you in bondage while they do they dirt because they want the best of both worlds.
Some cheaters know full well that if the other found out they were cheating, the significant other would be ready to leave. To avoid this disastrous conclusion, one lies to maintain the appearance of fidelity, when in fact, infidelity is the motive.
Yes, it is a completely selifsh act done under the guise of "I still love you, Boo!"

In reality, its harder to tell someone they lost feelings for them or tell them they want to break up. Im against cheating, but sometimes cheating just happens so easily that you dont even notice, like when you see a hot guy and thinking about making a move on him. You can say you havent physically cheated on your bf or gf, but you were emotionally cheating. People dont normally just decide to go cheat on their bf or gf. It just sometimes happens, unintentionally, when they met someone who they discover is better than their current bf or gf by just talking. However, some people cheat to get attention from their bf or gf by making them jealous.
I, also wish people would just be honest to each other about how they feel straight up so that it wouldnt make relationships complicated and painful. But I think for some people, they still love two people at once, and dont know who to choose, so they dont ever plan on telling you, until you find out.

Well maybe the person find somethings that they can't find to their partner...or maybe they think that they can't do some things with their partner but can with the other....and that they can't lose their partner just like that as they are more important than the other....

It's easier to cheat then tell the truth and hurt them. Something is missing in the relationship or he/she is not getting what he/she wants out of it to make them want to cheat. Being drunk os not an excuse.

They don't want to lose you, or they don't want to hurt you, or both. All mean cheat, by the way; some get caught, some don't. Do not take it personally. (Almost all men. Its human nature. Monogomy is a highly unrealistic expectation.)
