I've been backed up for about 5 or 6 days, I have the party on Saturday and I don't want a sudden case of the runs to surprise me. What are some of the foods I can get to get my bowels moving. Also, taking laxatives, how long does it take before it starts working and how long of the day should I set aside for this "fun time" I'll be having with the toilet?

haha I love how you've titled your Q. We click, prepared for an innocent "how to organise my clutter" Q, but....bahaha.

The only laxative I would recommend taking is SENOKOT (natural and less...um....harsh than others). I think it should work within a few hrs and you should be clear after 12 hrs. So get it asap Friday and hopefully you can stay home that day. It should be ok by Saturday.

Drink LOTS AND LOTS of water, eat citrus fruits (fibre and liquid in one), bran of course to make your stools more solid...but water is really the most important.

Every person's bowels are different. It is normal to go for number 2 twice a day, as it is normal to go once a week, for different people. Foods, I would suggest licorice, and allow 6-8 hours to work good luck :)

If you're backed up you really shouldn't need laxatives. Just go get yourself a pint of cole slaw and a small bottle of prune juice. Heat up a mug of juice up and sip it while you eat your slaw. If there's nothing wrong with you, like an obstructed bowel, you'll go.
