My bf jus broke up with him. I know he is a decent guy overall, but during our breakup, he was being hot&cold&hot&cold like a jerk.

Did you think to ask him why before you broke up with him? He may be struggling over some decisions or problems in his life. Sometime life is not just as simple as hot and cold. It can get rather complicated. If you really love him, talk to him. Maybe he can help you understand what is going on in his life that causes him to be moody.

well, some guys remain decent and some end up like a jerk. see what he does that makes him a jerk and if he doesn't ever do anything a jerk would, he is decent

Any guy can be a jerk.. just find the right spot and watch him blow into the biggest jerk you've ever met.

If you broke up with him, there is a good chance that he may have just been quite pissed off. On the other hand he might be taken aback, I don't think you can judge his character by what happened when you broke up, but only if you were breaking up with him.

he finally realized that nice guys finish last. he has had enough of being nice and being treated poorly, so he is not going to be so nice any more.
it's a good growing experience for him. he'll be better off for it.

eih sometimes circumstances push us to do actions that makes us a different person..maybe his doing it to cover-up his pain and fears..
