Here I am, arguing with my friend about the 300 movie.

She says it's an anti-Islamic western propaganda, I say she's just paranoid.

So now I would like to ask you all, mostly Americans and people of the west, do you really get the idea to hate Islam more just by watching 300?

People who say it is anti-Islamic are just plain ignorant. Islam wasn't around for over 1000 more years. This graphic novel was written prior to 9-11, the Iraq War, tension with Iran, etc., so people who say the movie is a right wing propaganda piece spreading hate need to learn the facts. This movie is based on historical events. Obviously it isn't a documentary, but it gets the basic idea on film. If you hear someone say it is anti-Iran or Islam, give them $15 to go buy a history book. 300 is about self-sacrifice and heroicism.

The Persians weren't always Muslim. They were conquered by the Arabic's and converted to Islam by force. What you saw in the movie 300 is a very realistic account of how they spread their religion. To this day they are committing the same atrocities all over the world in their murderous attempt to make their religion global. And that's the truth. But just because somebody wants to point out the obvious doesn't mean their racist or wants to spread lies. And no I don't hate Islam more because of the movie.I've read most of the qua ran so I can better understand what we're up against and already knew allot about it.Tell your friend she needs to stop watching CNN so much and listening to politically correct politicians. If we rely on them to do our thinking for us all common sense will go out the window along with our sanity.

the movie 300 is based on Greco-Persian Wars that occurred around 499-498 BC before Islam was born. Islam was created during the 600 AD. So is nothing to do with Islam. Your Muslim Friend has a very narrow minded way of thinking

a word for the wise! this is a true story - somewhat glorified but true!
this movie is not about hating Islam , this movie is to entertain and maybe educate!
lets put this in perspective for your friend! the Greeks did not ward off Persians once but twice! it should show you how war mongering these folk where back in the day!
and then Alexander the great did it again during his crusades! all this shows is the superior fighting strategy of the ancient Greeks! propaganda she says - I would think not - I am from Greece and can only be proud that my forefathers where capable to resist and defeat such evil! tell your friend that not everything that is portrait not in favor of Islam is propaganda and one can not always smell like fresh cut flowers when committing such atrocities! this is historic and entertainment - NOTHING ELSE!

EDIT - one more thing - Islam doesn't own this world - we can do what ever we please in a free world so tell her to stop whining !

I wouldn't say it's anti-"Islamic".....but it COULD be considered anti-Iranian when not put in the correct context.

I don't hate Islam in the first place - truly, I could care less what religion you are, so long as you're not trying to force it on ME.

As far as 300, I'm gonna watch it because I want to see the (supposedly) great graphical representation, and because I like Gerald Butler (yes, it's corny, but hey, why not?)

But it doesn't make me hate Islam (or Iran for that matter!)...but I think I agree with a man's assumption on the History Channel's review of the Battle of Thermopylae: (not exact) "we're interested because we, in the West, think 'Who would want to attack Athens?!'."

We don't see Greece as it was then - a group of non-aligned city-states that fought with each other, not unlike Scotland's clan system - we see Greece as the developed nation it became. We don't see Persia as this country that united other nations but allowed them to operate under their own leaders and beliefs - we see Persia (now Iran) as the people who attacked "Greece" - and why would ANYONE want to attack such a "developed and brilliant nation"? *grin*

I also have the distinct ability to hold intelligent conversations with most people I meet, and we've all discussed this movie - none of them hate Islam or Iran because of it, they just find it an inspiring movie that 300 Spartans (along with the 7000 foot soldiers and the other sea vessels not generally mentioned) would think to take a stand against such a big nation, and such a massed force that was merely trying to enact revenge on the Athenians for helping to sack a Persian city.

Everything other than submission to Allah is anti-Islamic propaganda. I think she is confused because it is about a pre-Islamic Persian army and I've heard the IRanian President say it is anti-Persian propaganda but this story predates Islam by thousands of years and makes no mention of the Mo man.

No. I get the idea to hate Islam when that religion preaches killing westerners, and anyone who disagrees with their warped koran.

Killing others who believe in God, but diffferent from their religion is lunacy. They are animals.

How many Muslim leaders have acted out, or preached out against these 'extremists' who have hijacked their religion? Why not? Cause they all secretly agree with the extremists. Their Silence is deafening.

I agree with you. It was just a movie, a kick a*s one at that. May I say that most or all movies are made to entertain us. That's why the makers of the movie say it was based on a true story based being the keyword. So you have to understand that some or most of the movie is fiction.

No. It's based on a true story. Was Kingdom of Heaven anti-Christian because it showed the Crusades? I don't think so.

I agree, your friend is paranoid.
