Praying alone is something each person in the Lord and otherwise should do. This is what you call "personal prayer."
In the bible, in matthew chapter 6: 6 it says "whenever you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret, and your Father in who sees in secret will reward you."
People usually say, why should i go to church, why should i pray in public when i can pray in my room?
Praying in public, meaning at conventions and gatherings may or may not be more affective personally, but it does help certain people who come there in search of God and answers. So when you pray in public you may help someone else in their search for the ultimate truth :)
p.s. praying in your heart, personally is a great thing... that way you are not boasting but being personal with God. That is a better form of prayer for your spiritual betterment. It also makes you get closer and closer to the Lord.
Peace be with you and God bless :)

Union has strength. It applies to group prayer also. As everyone says, pray sincerely, but nobody explains what is sincere prayer. If ur prayer is answered it is sincere otherwise it is not? I feel that we are all mix of positive and negative thoughts and an environment is affected with the postive and negative thoughts. When u r praying alone, it depends what is ur state of mind i.e. whether u can cancel all negativity or it keeps on disturbing ur prayers. In a group ur mind is on prayer only as u r surrounded by others who are also praying so individual negativity is definitely cut off or reduced. As u r in a hall the entire area is vibrating with positivity as prayers are positive affirmations of our desires. It is bound to be more powerful in a positively charged atmosphere.

No. Prayer in solitude, alone, has as much effect than with someone-and maybe more. At times, Jesus went away to be alone and pray. When you are alone your mind is not as likely to be distracted. You can concentrate a little better.

Praying on your own is wonderful, and brings you close with God. But prayer in groups is more powerful. That is why church is important. At my church we have wednesday nigth prayer meetings. It lasts a while and everyone give prayer requests and we all pray. More effective that way.

God hears your prayers if you pray in the name of Jesus, but each one of us is a candle power and when you hook up with 3000 people praying it is a lot of candles glowing and when God looks down from heaven and sees the bright light he dumps power on the worshipers. So yes there is power in the body of believers!

Prayer is only effective when someone truly is sincere.
