Neighbor seems to think it is funny to just shoot them and to leave them where they land after shooting them. I myself find it bothersome becuz of him shooting across my backyard onto the property on the other side of my house. Not to mention that my dog has been outside at times when he has done so, fearing that he may strike him as well. I feel that if he wants to do this maybe he should be doing it in the country where it would be safer for everyone. Has also ripped into the siding of my garage because of his poor aiming. I wished there was a way to put a stop to this nonsense. Is costing me money and unneccessary stress. I have tried asking him to please not to this and taking a step further and reporting him..as well as other neighbors. Any suggestions as to what other steps there is to take to end this? I know squirrels are a pain in the backside, but they are also a part of nature that some do enjoy watching

It depends on the city as to weather it is illegal to shoot a pellet gun in city limits. But in his case you should be able to make a reckless endangerment charge stick. It is a misdemeanor, but it will let him know that people are serious.

As for him ruining your siding. Turn the damage into your insurance company. Explain to them what caused the damage and have the Insurance Company go after his butt. If the damage is under the deductible and the insurance company will not do anything, you could take him to court and have him pay for the damage. If you get a few neighbors involved it may turn into a big freakin' hassle to him and he will stop.

If it was a perfect world you could just start arching 30-06 shells over his yard and leave bigger holes in his garage. Just kidding, I know that is only causing an escalation in violence and isn't a viable solution to the problem. Just trying to use humor to relieve some of the tension.

There are several variables involved. Do you live in city limits? If so, check the city ordinances. Some cities like San Fransicko will toss you in jail just for having the air rifle much less using it. What state are you in? Some states will not allow hunting with an air rifle at all except for "unprotected" species. Then there is the specs of your air rifle. 700 FPS shooting very light pellets that DO NOT retain energy well is just not a good choice for hunting. Lots of fun for target shooting but not what you want for a quick humane kill on squirrels.

Even though this is a just a pellet gun, it is irresponsible behavior. Any hunter should know his background and make sure his shots don't hit inadvertent targets. I suggest that you call your local law enforcement and ask to speak with them about a matter. Also, check with your city planning department. There is probably a local zoning law about discharge of pellet guns in the city limits. Lastly, it is probably illegal to kill and leave a dead animal in the city limits. This might be an animal control issue.

You have a right to be safe. Pellets can knock out an eye and injure you or your dog. This person gives responsible gun owners a bad name and should be punished to keep you safe. You've tried being nice. Now contact law enforcement.

Also, document when this occurs as a record.

First of all a pellet gun is not considered a firearm and discharge means to fire a explosive cartridge and a pellet gun can be shot in city limits. Yes you should report him for reckless and endangerment. It is illegal to shoot and leave the squirrels there to.

There are definite laws against this. Most of them just misdemeanors depending on the jurisdiction. It's definitely dangerous and negligent behaviour. By law he is also liable for any and all damage done to your property in this action. In the interest of keeping the peace you may wish to talk to him directly first, but I would recommend against this. Sadistic impulses like this raise a very big red flag.

Call the cops.
Depending on where you live, discharging of a Airgun in city
limits can be illeagl. I'm a airgunner myself, have been for 10
years. Dumbshitz like that guy give us law abiding air gunners
a bad name. Just call the cops.

call the cops, not only is discharging that within city limits illegal, so is shooting squires, in the first place, let alone leaving them, so he will have the local ASPCA there, or whatever it is, and he will have to pay for damages he causes. if he brakes the law, he pays for what is broken in the process

You can't shoot over someone else's land, that's illegal. The discharging a firearm within city limits thing may or may not be illegal, where I live it's illegal where one of my friends lives he can shoot bambis in his front yard if he's so inclined.

This is what i would do. If he does it again go up to him and ask him if you shoot his gun at a squirrel then he will give you the gun then you shoot him.
