I'm a student and I can't find this in any of my texts just wonderning if anyone knows the relationship or if there is a direct relationship. Thank you in advance.

Firstly, as a point of clarification, the Watt is a measure of power, not energy. Power is energy per unit time (rate of energy production/comsumption).

I have seen reports that estimate the power of solar rays contacting Earth to be about 150,000 terawatts (where a terawatt is a trillion (10^12) watts). Note that is only the power that reaches Earth, which is a tiny fraction of that produced by the entire Sun.

To give you an idea of how much power that is, current consumption of energy in the world (of all types, including electricity and fuels for automobiles) proceeds at a rate of about 15 TW, or 1/10,000th the rate at which solar energy contacts the Earth.
