Sounds like a muscle problem, did you have a fall or almost fall and try to catch yourself. It's really hard to tell, but if the pain continues, as I am sure you already know, see a doctor.
Oh, might want to try a warm bath with epsom salts, or a shower with the water hitting your sore area. Sorry about your pain.

I can not say for certain what your diagnosis is, however, as a retired nurse and having had 2 major back surgeries, I can assure you that even if it is "just a muscle problem" as you said, there seems to be some underlying factors. A "pulled muscle", a "sprained muscle", a "strained muscle", are all problems that should addressed by your physician. If someone tells you it sounds like a "pinched nerve", well, as my neurosurgeon says, NO NERVE JUST PINCHES ON ITS OWN. Again, there are many factors. Personally, I say it sounds more along the lines of a problem with your sciatic nerve. Any of the afore mentioned conditions can and will only deteriorate without proper professional treatment.
I dont know that this is the answer you are looking for, but I can assure you, it is an honest and sincere one. I wish you the best of recoveries!

Wow that sounds just like me! It all depends on many factors, however. I'm a BBW who carries weight around the middle which stresses my lower back. That stress puts stress on my hips...my right one as well because of the way I walk I think. This happens after I exercise by walking which I do to try to lose the weight that hurts my back (a vicious cycle indeed). So because of my weight, my back is out of alignment because it has to compensate which just throws everything out of whack. I don't know what to do other than to keep going until it hurts, then rest till it feels ok enough to walk some more. As I lose weight and exercise my abs with standing crunches, my back feels a bit better and I can walk farther until I need to stop and rest.
A standing crunch is just that. Stand with your feet shoulder width apart, suck ur tummy in, and simulate a crunch by contracting the ab muscles. Its a pelvic tilt, done standing up to save the back from a hard floor.
I obviously have no idea what's going on with your back, but you should definitely see your doctor. He/she can see what's causing your pain and take the right course of action. I just put my two cents in because I have the same problem...albeit from what may be a totally different source. Good luck!

It could be a muscle spasm - sometimes the simplest things can cause them. But if it is affecting you to the point where you are unable to walk properly, you REALLY need to see your doctor and get a thorough evaluation of the problem. If it is a simple muscle spasm, a muscle relaxer and anti-inflammatory such as ibuprofen may be all you need. However, your doctor needs to make sure there is not a more serious underlying problem that needs to be addressed.
