Hi
Another way of putting it is like this, God is not looking for ability, rather He is looking for availability.
God does not choose people based on their natural ability, academical qualifications and so on, but more on their heart and desire to love and serve Him, but those He chooses He will equip to fulfil the purpose He has for their lives.
1 Corinthians 1:27 But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to put to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to put to shame the things which are mighty.
Here we can see that God is not interested in things that are viewed as great in the world, indeed He can and on many occasions chooses those who are far from 'great' in the worlds eyes, chosen not for their ability and so on.
Of course in doing so He brings great glory to His name, in using the weak and so on by equipping them to serve in His name, because no one can for a minute base it on their own ability, or take glory for their own wisdom and so on, it is all of God.

It simply means you don't have to be specially qualified in any way for God to choose you. In fact He chooses anyone who chooses Him (whether or not it seems that way to you, He will have chosen you already, before your birth, if you go on to choose Him. He knows who will accept and who will reject Him).
Once you are a believer, He will give you all the characteristics necessary to accomplish the task you are chosen for.

haha my dad who is a preacher says this too.. it simply means that God doesnt look at those who are highly qualified or those who are of a higher status quo or those who are hiogghly intelligent.. He will use whoever pleases him.. ie a fisherman and stuff. then God will raise him to do wonders in His name.. stuff that is so miraculous it goes beyond what any of us can imagine. simply said.. God looks at the heart of those who pleases Him and rewards Him,, so dont ever think ure forgotten jus because u have a bad job or sumtin.. hope tis helps

It means God doesn't choose people that are already perfect believers, (he doesn't have to, they already believe). God chooses imperfect people and perfects, or qualifies them!
A lot of people think that God would never accept them because they are too sinful. There is no sin too great for God. He'll accept you as you are, and then he'll make you better! Hope this helps!

God's choosing you for His plan has nothing to do with your abillities or qualifications. But rather, if He chose you, He will make sure you are equipped with (from Him) all the tools to make His plans come about.

Moses was a slave-born child who grew up as a prince of Egypt. He studdered (slow of speech and tongue), but God gave him the words and opened his mouth. He was a mere man, but God gave him the power to perform miracles.
You do not have to become pure and holy to seek out God. God seeks you out, and makes you pure and holy.

In other words whether you have qualifications or not , he will say if you are worthy of him or what he wants you to do for him. He judges us not our qualifications.
