I'd like to hear from anyone who has gone a long time (year+) both eating breakfast everyday and not eating breakfast everyday. From 05-06, i had a nutrigrain snack bar everyday for breakfast. Before and after that, I never ate breakfast, usually just some coffee and a cig.

The only difference I notice is that when I eat breakfast, I'm hungrier earlier in the day, and eat more for lunch. My energy levels are pretty much identical, and I seem to work better without it.

Anybody else?

The reason they always say that is because breakfast stands for "breaking the fast" that was created between your dinner and your breakfast, which for most people is quite a long time. In order to keep your brain functioning properly, most people need to have their blood sugar at a pretty even keel and if you wait too long in between you will have gone into a very low blood sugar area which cuts off your brain functioning at optimal levels for the energy output. Personally, I don't feel hungry for a couple hours after waking but it's a good idea to have a little protein so I have waffles (Eggos) and bacon with my little one and by the time it hits my taste buds, my body remembers it's hungry. Like you, if I eat breakfast, I feel ravenous a few hours later and I end up eating way more than I would have had I not eaten breakfast upon wakening. The other thing after eating any meal is that I feel like I need a nap. Ha. So much for having energy. Everything changed though when I started having Starbucks Venti Caramel Macchiatos with an Extra Shot of Espresso for my breakfast.... Ha ha....Hope that I answered your question. :)

I usually dont eat breakfast at all. Usually only during the weekends when my mom makes me but for the week it's nothing. Im fine without energy is the same for me too except sometimes I need a kick so I have some coffee. Some days Im hungrier and somedays Im not for lunch. It depends how much I ate for dinner the night before.

Eating is important to survival but eating by a set clock is not as important as the "powers that be" would leave us to believe.

We all do not have the same metabolism or internal clock so eating at the same time for all makes absolutely no sense.

I am a health professional and I eat to feed my appetite.

I often fast for a day or two and I assure you it does more harm then good.

Do you honestly think we would have such a problem with obesity and malnutrition if people had a better grasp on how much to eat and when.

What has always worked for me is frequent small meals throughout the day.

I am as healthy as they come and sitting down for breakfast when I just wake up is not the way to go for me.

A juice or a smoothie and I am good to go.

I eat my first meal around mid morning at about 11 and lunch around 2.

I feel the same way it makes me hungrier faster for lunch than if I dont eat breakfast. If i am out in the morning I usually just have a Dr. Pepper then wait for lunch. I used to not like breakfast foods besides pancakes and donuts. But I do love McDonalds egg and sausage burritos, mmm mmm good! and I hate coffee, the smell, the smell from someone who has drank coffee, yuck!

I had a coffe and a cig for breakfast for years...and that was all. I had a very slim figure and energized myself with cigarettes. I was definitely not a morning person. Then I ate a huge dinner.
After quitting smoking, I took up eating breakfast regularly. I now sleep better and my skin looks much better. I eat less at lunch and dinner and my energy stays consistant throughout the day. And, considering my age, I still have a slim figure. I look forward to mornings. (Breakfast consists of 1/2 grapefruit, 1/2 cup oatmeal, 1 slice of multigrain toast) I have never felt healthier. I have the day to wear it off!! BA

The difference is in your bodies' metabolism. Yes, we get hungry when we eat because it 'turns on the motor' which burns fuel. this in turn is good for your brain. If the large lunch (which should be your largest meal and containing the most of your vitamins and minerals) is somehow problematic for you, then have those energy bars with your coffee and cig at your breaks. For those trying to lose weight, citrus in the morning is great, other fresh fruit will work also. They have a lot of vitamins and minerals to offer, start your engine, and have no calories to speak of, in this manner your body will use the stored fat for fuel as the day progresses. If you don't 'break' the fast, the body stays shut down and the calories just sit there.

I totally agree with you. I never eat breakfast as it's too early - I get up at 05.20. Sometimes I don't eat anything til around 09.00 and even then it's not a meal, just a snack. If I do have breakfast I have cereal or toast around 07.00 and then I've constantly got the munchies all day. I know they say breakfast is the most important meal of the day but I have to disagree

Your hunger is most likely because you haven't eaten all night so your matabolism slowed down and once you get some food in your system it speeds up again causing you to become hungry faster. Try not eating carbs for breakfast, they tend to make some people even more hungry. But no way breakfast is not overrated its good to eat in the morning otherwise your metabolism stays slow until lunch and you won't burn any calories.. Hope that helps : )

breakfast is overrated!
I am the same way, if I ate anything before 11 or 12 I would be hungry ALL day...and more slugish/sleepy. I do a lot better waiting to around lunch time before I eat anything. But I do get up in the mornings and go gee I want the whole nine yards, eggs, bacon, toast, grits....I will be hungry (once a blue moon) and I will eat it! and I will pay for it too!!! I will be tired, wanting to lay down, if I push myself to go through the day and not lay down I will be hungry more often...weird I know...

if you eat a healthy and good size breakfast and a normal lunch you will be hungrier because your body is burning off carbs. Add a normal dinner and over time you will see a difference than not eating breakfast you will become healthier. Good Luck!
