New: Today, Science Diet recalled their cuts and gravy cat foods.

" Hill's Pet Nutrition (maker of Science Diet and Prescription Diet foods) announced that they are participating in the voluntary recall as well:

Hill’s Pet Nutrition, Inc., Announces Voluntary Participation in Menu Foods’ Nationwide U.S. recall of Specific Canned Cat Foods.

Topeka, KS (March 17, 2007) – In response to the recent Menu Foods, Inc. nationwide recall of wet pet foods, Hill’s® Pet Nutrition, Inc. has announced a voluntary precautionary recall in the United States of a very small number of canned cat products that are co-manufactured by Menu.

This recall only affects Science Diet Feline Savory Cuts canned products in the United States.

Hill’s is voluntarily recalling the following products:

1. Science Diet® Kitten Savory Cuts® Ocean Fish 3 oz. and 5.5 oz.
2. Science Diet® Feline Adult Savory Cuts® Beef 5.5 oz.
3. Science Diet® Feline Adult Savory Cuts® Chicken 5.5 oz.
4. Science Diet® Feline Adult Savory Cuts® Ocean Fish 5.5 oz.
5. Science Diet® Feline Senior Savory Cuts® Chicken 5.5 oz.

No other Hill’s products are affected by this recall."

I also think Royal Canin is a great food. Nature's Recipe was not on the recall either. Neither is Paul Newman's Organic dog food, Dick Van Patten's Natural Balance, California Naturals, and others I am sure. Neither are some of the lower cost foods like Pedigree and Purina Dog Chow. What they have in common is they are not processed at Menu Foods.
The good thing is, since this happened at Menu Foods, I have no doubt that wherever other processing takes place, people are going to be very very careful in the near future because this disaster is hitting the dog food world HARD. Many people are switching from affected brands, regardless of what might be done and the ones not affected don't want to be the next affected.
So here's to our pet's health!

FYI, I found this on the web this week and spoke to someone at the law firm who told me they have been working on the case for a while now....totally unrelated to the wet menu food recall.....

http://www.rochongenova.com/petfoods.aspx

High levels of Vitamin D in 59 types of Royal Canin, causing many sick dogs since 2004.

I just switched off Royal Canin yesterday....

I use Royal canin too, My 2 dogs love it. And this year at crufts they lunched dog food that was breed specific for my 2 little shih-tzus.
It is the most healthy food for your best friend out there.

They probably excluded it since it probably doesn't send out soft pet food in that brand the petfood recall was only for soft can dog food.

you know that , its not about the dry foods for the dogs and cats . its the canned cans foods that not good cause if the pets cans foods are so sticken and wet and soilds and smell funny that will cause the dogs and cats kidneys damages and even killed them by feeding from the canned cans dogs and cats foods . thats the recall is about. . iam so glad i didnt even buy any cans foods for my cats and dog cause i usually buy them a large bags of dried vegetables dogs and cats foods instead. but it was sad to heared and watched the news about the others owners out there all over the worlds had lost their pets.

Another Royal Canin fan here! The good thing is, haven't met an animal yet who doesn't want to eat it.

that's what i thought but royal canin also has a class action suit from a recall last year. i am going to start making my cats food, big manufacturers don't seem to be reliable.
