Let's say a large city decided to withdraw support for Washington, DC...and then many other cities of various sizes quickly followed their lead.

Let's say the President ordered all cities who wouldn't submit to obey, be attacked until surrender. What would the branches of the military do? Do you have an opinion?

This is a serious question. I hope you'll answer it after some thought. I believe that within 5 years the answer will be known. What's your honest opinion, please?

The National Guard has the Authority to put down revolts on order of the Governor from the state.

The active duty military requires the president to order such an attack.

I would expect at this point I would expect the military to have about 50% Deserters, units would fail to move. Even at the General Officer level units would be ordered to stand down.

and then Who knows Civil War....?

If soldiers were ever ordered to attack Americans in the fashion you suggest some would follow orders and some would not. Remember soldiers take an oath. I doubt it would be a tax revolt though it would more likely be about our 2nd amendment rights. We are supposed to be able to protect ourselves from a corrupt Government. Let's all hope it never comes to that.

I think we should have a nationwide tax revolt. And toss out every politician who has secondary businesses. Elect new people at only $50,000 and see how they live on that kind of income. Yes, thats not including their expense account. Many of them can live on the leftovers of their expense accounts. Lets start a revolt NOW.

In that scenario I would say 'yes', the military would do whatever it was instructed to do. Look at those wonderful patriotic FEMA troops who you can watch on video as they handcuff and disarm wealthy New Orleans homeowners after Katrina. Any soldier or commander who participated in that excercise is a traitor.

Well, the first thing they'd do is withhold federal funds of every shape, size, and form. Schools would close, policemen would be laid off, communications equipment would cease to work.

I've already given my opinion on the military, if it came to opening fire on civilians(in any long-term engagement).

They wouldn't need to.

The IRS is statutorily allowed to seize assets, so they could cripple all the tax protesters financially.

No need for military action.

Other than a few irrational types, I can't believe the U.S. military would attack its own citizens. We are citizen soldiers, not mercenaries. Americans first, last and always. The idea is so far-fetched it is difficult to imagine.

I don't think this would ever happen because as soon as word spread five blocks the organizers would be arrested for treason.

Nope, won't be a tax revolt, why we have politicians that debate the tax issue often, one party belives we should pay more taxes, one thinks we should pay less, which would you vote for?
