Insist on discussing it like they know what they're talking about? Rather than continuing to ask dumb questions why don't they take the time to study the book first? I guess some folks have no pride.

Sometimes discussing helps you understand more the subject, even if you don't know it fully.

Why can't you write a coherent question? Looks like you're missing at least one word. I guess it's true that "those who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones."

So, if I put your first two "questions" together and take it literally, then you're asking about why uneducated people written about in the Bible discuss it like they understand it and ask dumb questions. Well, they're all dead now, the Bible that we have today was not available for them to read, and the printing press hadn't been invented yet. Otherwise, you would have asked, "why do people who are completely uneducated, in regard to Bible study, insist on discussing the Bible like they know what they're talking about?"

Perhaps for the same reason that some people who are well versed in the Bible but know nothing of science, insist on discussing science like they know what they're talking about. Rather than making dumb statements, like "if we came from monkeys, why are there monkeys," why don't they take the time to study science first, to find out what it really says? Is it a matter of pride, or just ignorance? I toss the question back to you!

Well not that I paid much attention in school, but even there you heard it always said "the only dumb question is the one not asked." I read my bible regularly, yet I find every time I re-read a book or passage I gain a better understanding. I have been through my bible several times, yet I still have a need from time to time to ask if what I am understanding is correct of not just an elder or my pastor but of fellow christians. How can you ask a dumb question in regards to the truth unless like some I have witnessed on this site who blatently are blasphemis to God. Only an opinion not to condemn anyone.

I was raised a Christian and went to all the big conventions and everything. And now I'm an atheist so I know mostly everything but can't tell you I've read the whole bible. I really want to though it's just so hard for me to read because I get so sick reading it. It's full of hatred and you start to think about all the pain and death it's caused to me it's unbearable. I'm really going to try to read it though I just bought the Koran and a book by Neil Degrasse that I need to start also. And I also have a book by Harris but I'm sort of tired of the old atheist rant. All I’ve been doing lately is laying around studying up for college.

I agree with another poster. Your question is the opposite (and yet nearly identical) to what scientists ask of Christians. Why do people who are completely uneducated in science insist on discussing it like they know what they're talking about??? No one can know everything. We do the best with what we've got stored away up there.

Those people, are basing all their "facts" on what they hear and see - not what they read about. They insist on discussing it because they will usually want to show that they are "knowledgeable" in other fields, they don't want to feel excluded. Either that or they just want to criticize the Bible because of whatever bad experience they had with some sort of religious person, whether it was debate or what-not. And no, they do have a pride; if you were to mention one of their faults or mistakes they'll quickly turn from attacking religion to EXTREMELY defensive because they cannot accept the fact that they are imperfect.

Although I agree that far and away most christians have very little understanding of the bible, reading it only in English for example, I believe that they have every right to claim that they understand it as well as people who waste much more time on it.

Nearly everything in R & S is baseless opinion. As long as I keep growing, I will always realize that my previous view was incomplete, and update it based upon ever new data. As time goes by I always learn more, see differently, and then look back on what I used to believe and laugh. Since this happens over and over again, I can only hypothesize that indeed, I am always wrong.

After entering your question into my patented "Dork" detector( which now qualifies you as such), it scientifically and unrefuteably concluded that dorks who don't use a comma to seperate a dependent clause from an independent clause SHOULD NOT call others "dumb". I guess some folks have no "pride" in their grammar or punctuation skills...dork.

Perhaps reading is difficult for them, or their comprehension isn't so good. Maybe they're poor, and can't buy one. Or maybe it's just because some folks *like* to argue, just for the sake of arguing. Perhaps it's because *some* folks like to stir things up because they're bored. They're bored because they're uneducated. They're uneducated because they don't like to read because their comprehension isn't so good. -Or- perhaps they're new at all of this, and just want to post what they've learned. Or maybe they're just plain wicked, and get their jollies from frustrating other people!
