you may not be able to avoid hurting their feelings but try to be nice .... it will soften the blow at least. You are not obligated to date every guy that likes you .... remember that ! ...you are entitled to be picky and should be . Just explain that you don't have the same feelings as he does ... say your sorry but ......
I've been in that situation also ... the funny thing is as much as you don't want to be nasty ... sometimes they force it. I guess it's easier to be angry than feel rejected ..... good luck : )

I'm not a guy, but I don't think there's ever a way to break it to someone gently. Regardless of whether you're nasty or nice, if someone's formed an attachment to you, they're going to feel hurt when you break it off.
I think the best you can do is try to remember that the person will in all likelihood recover from the emotional blow. Think about the times someone's turned you down or cut you off. You feel like crap for a while, but eventually you bounce back, right?
That having been said, I would think something along the lines of a gentle "I'm sorry, but I just don't feel the same way" would suffice. I know I don't like to hear other things like "I'm flattered that you like me" or "You're really great--you shouldn't have a problem finding someone else." That just makes me think, well, if I'm so great, why don't you want me?
So I would suggest not being hypocritical, but just offering up, as politely as you can, the simple truth--you're just not interested.
Hope this helps.

tell him that's over (ideally in front of witnesses) and which you do not opt to confirm him returned, era. If that does not artwork, get a restraining order. tell the dorm supervisor that he's bothering you and function him banned from the dorm. checklist him to the college for stalking, in spite of it takes to get this controlling jackass faraway from you. he's focused on you and additionally you're letting him (letting him by means of your lunch and such). Then he tries to apply the "you owe me" shtick while he paid willingly for the lunches. you do not owe him jack and the previously you slap the stalker lable in this loser, the greater useful. Be blunt, in front of witnesses, which you're actually not involved in him, have not any choose to confirm him returned and that if he keeps, you will get a restraining order and bypass to campus safety and checklist him. greater useful that than to have him stalk you for the subsequent 12 months. Be professional-lively, you do not could be a sufferer and your sexual orientation is none of his freaking enterprise.

honesty is the best policy.. you don't like someone, so let them know with those exact words.. don't get specific because that would be insulting..
