I realise it depends on the karma of the individual and his/ her dedication.

Yogi Bhajan says "The Yoga Sutras (writings) say that what you can achieve in 12 years of Hatha Yoga, plus 6 years of Raj Yoga, plus 3 years of Mantra Yoga, plus 1 year of Laya Yoga can be accomplished in a single year of perfectly practiced Kundalini Yoga."

Does that actually mean under a proper guru, enlightenment (moksha/ liberation) can be achieved in a year of proper practice?

What it means is that Kundalini path can be 22 times quicker than utilising the other forms of yoga. I will vouch for this as it is a very intensified path. Where a practitioner utilising hatha, raja, laya and mantra yoga can practice "part time" sincere kundalini path requires 100% commitment and dedication at the exclusion of all else.

One's life must become all consumed with transformation and the means of that transformation for the acceleration to be effective. Even then, it will not happen in a year unless karma means that one has spent many lifetimes sincerely and totally committed and dedicated to the path and this lifetime is the culmination.

In this lifetime it has taken me 12 years and I have spent at least 12 past lifetimes committed to kundalini practices. In the end, it is only the inner guru that can assist, not an external guru.

There is no definite reply for this as it mainly depends upon many factors, as u mentioned

Here your past karmas are the most important as all other things will depend upon it, even the Guru.

In this era, finding a proper guru is almost impossible.. hence one has to start himself, as waiting for a guru... may not be adviseable. If we continue and the System thinks we need a guru, he wil be sent

As for the time taken well it may happen in 1 minute or may take many life births.

In vivekananda's case it took 1 minute...but his past life karma were mainly responsible for this big leap

No one becomes enlightened immediately.... as God never throws dice to decide whom to give moksha ... it is always our own efforts and hard work

It probably takes those 12+6+3+1 years to learn how to properly properly perform and meditate for kundalini yoga.
Once you've mastered it, it can as well take just one year. But nobody tells you how long you have to practice to master it.
