I assume you are talking about a Document Based Question....
generally, 5 or 6 paragraphs will do fine, but it all depends on how much time you are given, how many sources to work with, and how you organize your paper...
IMO, having fewer paragraphs that are long rather than a lot of short paragraphs is better. A few long paragraphs will give you enough space to add in commentary and extra facts that will show you have a complete understanding of the topic at hand. Also, in most DBQs, you should be able to include multiple sources in the same paragraph because there is generally more than one document pertaining to one idea/topic....
I'd ask other people (maybe in your class) and your professor to find out how they set up their essays...

depends on you, usually id say its 5 but u can do like 4 or 6 depends on how much info you have and more importantly, how you apply it to the question. cuz as u may kno, it isnt just about writing facts down on paper but knowing how to use this info. hope i could help
