It is the consensious on the bodybuilding community that Whey protein is the dominant and most effective from of protein. Espically whey protein isolates and concentrate.

To the previous answer, the fitness community and bodybuilding community have for a long time embraced the use of soy protein as only second or third to whey isolates for the maintaining of muscle and proper function. If you a male, it is important to note that excessive soy protein has led to hormone imbalances that can hinder muscle growth. I suggest Optimum Nutrition's 100% whey protein (I have no affiliation with the company other than taking the product), but there are many other avaliable.

The best items to eat for muscle gain would be natural sources of animal protein: tuna, chicken, turkey, salmon, beef, beans and so forth.

The main items to say away from would be high fat and high simple carb foods. This will aid in your lower body fat percentage, allowing your muscles to pop. This includes: soda, fried food, any and all fast foods, and so forth.

High quality SOY PROTEIN~! Stay away from Whey, Egg, whatever protein that are advertised or sold at GNC or EAS or whatever company. Try Shaklee Physique (this is my top secret, but I do not mind sharing). Last winter Olympic, more than half was on Shaklee Physique protein who earned their Gold medals. It has been clinically tested by independent lab, and also has been published in medical journal, and scientific per review. This says it ALL.

Depend on your genetic, age, and work out program, but stay away from Steak, Dairy product, or saturated fat, and sugar. Get fat from veggies. Eat LOTS of colored Veggies, eat small meals (palm portion) 5, 6 meals per day, no carbohydorate after 3 pm. there are MANY way to do it, stick with what works for your body and your comfort level.
