Black nationalism was a political and social movement arising in the 1960s and early '70s mostly among African Americans in the United States, it started with Marcus Garvery in the 20s. The Black Panther Party was one pro-Black group during the '60s and '70s.

Contrary to what some of the other posters are saying, the Black Panthers are long defunct. They were also less about race than about economic reform (they were socialists; that's what the whole, "Power to the people" thing was about). Race politics was part of their rhetoric, but they were really about wealth redistribution (whereas the KKK is really about keeping the wealth where it currently is).
The NAACP is the major pro-Black organization active today, at least in the U.S.
The Nation of Islam is also pro-Black, but religion is as important as race to them.
The BPLN (Black Professionals Leadership Network) is a lesser known group that promotes networking and mentorship for Black executives in corporate America.
On the local level, any church with a predominantly Black congregation is likely to be politically active. Indeed, the church is often the focus for political activity in the Black community and Black opinion leaders are often clergy (a la Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Malcolm X, Dr. Louis Farrakan, Rev. Jesse Jackson, etc.). That's the reason for the spate of church bombings in the '90's; the perpetrators recognized how important the church is in Black political activity.

Black Panthers, anyone? Or, the New Black Panthers . . . . At least one of those groups is racist . . . probably both. I'm also inclined to think that black people who complain about racism on a regular basis are racist themselves, because they assume white people somehow have opportunities that they don't or something similar. In fact, all the so-called black leaders strike me as racist because they blow isolated things way out of proportion to make themselves seem more important and expand their influence. Good night!

It's everywhere....ever hear of BET (Black Entertainment Television), there are a multitude of Black only award shows, and sholarships (NAACP). White people could NEVER do what they do! I don't hate either, but how fair is that? Could you imagine a WHITE ENTERTAINMENT NETWORK, or a scholarship only for WHITE people. They would croak!!! We give our awards and scholarships equally to all races. They, only to Black, African American. Whatever. Totally not fair. Yet, they hate white people??? Seems like the "white" people try to be more fair than they do!!!!
