Most places wont let you because the rice is slippery and they do not want to be sued for someone falling on their assets....

It isn't illegal as far as I know ... some churches will discourage or even ban it because of the messy clean up effort that has to occur afterwards. It is also not safe for birds to eat.

I promise you though ... you don't want people throwing rice at you! Rice may look small, but get a lot of people throwing it at you and it hurts ... a lot!

It is illegal in some cities, counties and states. Mainly because of the liability issues when it comes to throwing uncooked rice and people can slip and fall because of it.

You need to check with your local laws and regulations as well as with the church, temple or place where you have your ceremony.

It is better to have the bubbles or for people to use smaller birdseed or sunflower seeds.

It was just a tradition using the rice to wish the couple a good start for their life in setting up a new household.

depends where you live. some places have passed laws, others have just said NO!
many churches, halls, will not allow it to be thrown simply because the cleanup time is too long, and generally there is more than one wedding a day going on!
so i wouldn't count on it. besides have you ever been hit with rice? it stings! same as birdseed!
what about giving all your guests little bottles of bubbles to blow? y'know like when you were a kid?
you can get bubbles in cute little wedding bottles at most craft stores and some of the larger fabric shops like joanns.
good luck!

No it is not Illegal. However you need to check with your Ceremony site on what their rules are.

Some places don't allow rice or birdseed due to the fact they either have to clean it up after wards or Birds leave an awful mess right in front of the doors and if it is a church then they have service the next day.

It is illegal to throw rice in tennessee, and at least one county in ohio, but it is usually at the county or city level that you find the ordinance against throwing rice. Most facilities request that you not use rice at weddings and have policies against it. That is throughout the U.S. It is also illegal in Norway.

It is not illegal to throw rice at a wedding. Its just not politically correct. The reason for people not using rice at weddings anymore as I understand it is because the birds try to eat it and once it gets in their stomachs it expands and eventually kills them. So now instead of using rice, many people just throw birdseed. Its pretty and the birds love it and it's good for them too.

Yes, throwing rice is illegal. If birds eat it, their stomachs can't digest it and it causes them to die. However, there is Designer Rice you can buy if you are intent on throwing rice. You can find it on www.weddingchannel.com or probably at a craft store. It is shaped like hearts and dissolves in the rain and is safe for birds!

It's illegal to throw uncooked rice in the United States because birds will eat it; causing their stomachs to expand and they will blow up. I don't know what happens with cooked rice but i do know that its still illegal in the US.

However I do suggest that you throw bread curbs or blow bubbles because this way the birds won't get sick. And if you have kids at the wedding it would make the kids happy just to play with the bubbles and you wouldn't have to be worried about them getting bored.

Since a wedding is a party and your guests are you're witnesses in your union together; you would want them to have some fun. So you could but some bubbles in the gift bags or put them at each table next to some bread curbs or bird feed.

Have fun at the wedding! ^.^

a lot of places dont allow it because it can be hard to clean up. plus i heard it had something to do with birds eating it and its bad for birds apparently. i dont know...it depends on the place. one wedding i was a flower girl in back in the day wouldnt actually let me drop the flowers because they didnt want the petals to get stuck in the little runner thing that was on the edges of the asile.

It depends on your venue. If it's 'not allowed' then you probably don't want to use rice.

As mentioned already, there are several other alternatives that are just as nice; birdseed for one. Stores and online sites where favors are sold also sell small containers of 'bubbles' which do well outdoors.
