Probably dis-satisfaction in the answers (or not answers) to their questions about Life, the Universe and everything. Christianity has much to offer, but it hasn't come up to speed on what's believable, and what's not, in their teachings. Using language 300 years out of date generally doesn't impress people as genuine or accurate, so they go away. Buddhism, and to a lesser extent, The Old Religion are acquiring adherents these days. They both offer something just a bit more concrete than Christianity to a lot of people.

They were never saved in the first place. everyone who claims to have been a christian but arn't anymore show the signs of a false convert. The Bible speaks of false conversion, in which a "stony ground" hearer receives the Word with joy and gladness. Then, in a time of tribulation, temptation, and persecution, falls away.

The top reason? They no longer believe in god.
After that, the reasons vary; everything from a lack of evidence, opposing political standpoints, unable to reconcile the bible's myth to the real world...the list goes on and on.

I am saying this with personal experience.
I am falling away from the Christian religion and I am well aware of this. My mother sits us down and reads us bible books published by pastors and whoever wants to make a quick buck, and I must say that having the religion shoved down my throught and being dragged to church is the main cause with me. I blame my mother for being an over religious zealot and forcing this upon me. I am almost 18 years old and I am still being read bible stories. I questioned god after hearing the story of Job. Read this I think it may be informative.

Missing pieces and it doesn't make sense. No evidence,te bible was written after Jesus died. In that time the word "Son of God", did not mean the Son of God, But more like, the messenger, don't believe read The holy bible, It also says that abraham was the "Son of God". Whoaa!!, same with Moses

It limits them. It doesn't allow them to do something that they want to do or it doesn't support them to move along a desired path.
Peace!
