Actually that was the reason for stained glass in the first Churches. The "Word" was given in pictures in the glass. Then an illiterate person could ask what it was about and hear the story. But, I think many Church's are getting away from this.
Though it was expensive to have written pages on papyrus in the old days, many would get someone to etch a few words from scripture on broken pottery, even though they could not read, it was special to them to have the word of God. They could remember the words and then show them to others.
But, the word was first given in talk, sitting around a fire or whatever. The written word came much later.

we could anticipate you're a man or woman.... in case you have a son, will that son be an antelope? A zebra? . A centipede ? No He could be a man or woman. So on an analogous time as God has a Son......He would be God do no longer concern for people who can no longer artwork out the triune nature of God....for he's God and we don't look.

If God can make a Donkey talk and talk to Moses with a burning bush, what makes you think his word is limited to a specific book. The first half of the Koran, the Torah and the Old Testament are the same book. If God wants to talk to you, he can use any means available. The problem arises when you decide you want to talk to God, if he doesn't answer in a timely manner or in a way we approve of, immediatey we jump to conclusions. God has things undercontrol, it is mankind that have the problems, and the ability to read is the least of them.

That's why Jesus (God in the flesh) gave us His Church, the Catholic Church. The Catholic Church is the only place where authentic interpretation of the Bible is guaranteed by the Holy Spirit. This is through the Magisterium which means the bishops in union with the Pope or the Pope acting alone.

This is the same structure of authority that Jesus had set up originally with Peter and the other apostles. The apostles were the very first bishops in the Church, and Peter was designated by Christ as the chief apostle and Vicar of Christ.

The stained glass windows of old Catholic cathedrals were actually made for those who were illiterate since over 90% of the people of Europe at the time were illiterate. Through the stained glass, statues, artwork, etc, the illiterate person could be exposed to the gospel of Jesus.

It was written down as a record. Most people up to the early 1900's didn't read or write. It was spread by word of mouth. As for the percentage of literate people, I have no idea. You would have to look that up. I am going to venture a guess though. I'm going to say 48%.

In the first century, the New testament letters were written yes, but they also spread by word of mouth. It still is done so today, but since many people are looking for something to hold on to, reading is how we grasp the Word easier.
It is still able to be passed by mouth. Jesus didn't write everything he said, he spoke to the multitudes, some of whom may hvae been illiterate.
God bless you
GOD BLESS AMERICA!!!

I think illiteracy have nothing to do with the believe in GOD'S message.I have seen people who are so illiterate yet their faith is so strong in their believe. It is common sense that we are living in this world that GOD had created.GOD have provided us with everything we need on earth.Try to go to Mars or Jupiter and see for yourself,if it's suitable. We humans are the guardian of this mother earth. So we have to take care of it,not to cause destruction that's where we will be doom.

My guess is more than half are illiterate.
My question is why would God ask someone who is illiterate and inarticulate, who can't explain things clearly, doesn't understand concepts clearly, write His book.
If God had chosen someone with better writing skills to write the Bible, we wouldn't have so damned many denominations that disagree and nit pick.

God knows that men are talkative. Therefore, even if only 10 percentage of people are literate, they will talk to 10 others, hence coverin the whole population.
