My mother and father are the kind of people who should have been born sterile. My mother should have been born without a womb in which to make a baby and my father should have been a eunuch. Both raised me in the deepest pits of hell and until the day I became a Christian I was a product of their miserable upbringing. No they were not Christian but if they were maybe I would have grown up knowing about love and mercy and forgiveness. It doesn't matter now because since I have been reborn all of my pain and grief they gave me that I carried around within me died with my old self.Since I found God and received the Holy spirit I am a brand new child of God and no longer a descendant of Adam. What a difference it makes and if you look for God in any religion you probably won't find him.Instead look for him in your heart, you don't need religion all you need is your Heavenly father.Religion has nothing to do with it.

No, my mother was 'spiritual' but she has never been very God fearing. Agnostic at 'best'. I've never met my father, he bailed on the family situation so that shows you where his intentions were.
My choice to become a Christian came with the mentoring of my best friend whom is my best male influence, a harsh break-up/move away from home that really made me see the truth of life as I instantly became stronger not through the sudden need for independence but for the sudden dependence upon (and strength of) the Christian teachings of my mentor.
My Christianity was further supported not only by my best friend/mentor (whom I have grown more equal to in my time as a believer) but also, surprisingly, by my grandmother.
Though my closest family (being my mother) still claims 'spirituality' she has done many things that have only solidified my beliefs through being misdeeds.
So, to simplify this answer, I was raised to worship my parent and revolve around her, my religious choice had more to do with discovering independence from my upbringing than following it.

No, I don't think so, its still a choice. I'm a Christian, but the way I worship, my mother would have called a Cult. The things I use in everyday life, the kinds of pictures I have in my room, playing video games...she would have said they were Satanic. I try not to begrudge any ones faith, religion, or belief(and there are differences, lol) I think people have a right to worship the way they want, and if God wants to save them(God saves, not people) he will. I'm ordained, by the way,lol.Anyhow. people can worship or not, any way they chose as long as they don't hurt themselves or another...or show up at my door asking me to go to church with them;)

You don't have too many choices until you are out of your parents house. After that you do have a choice, to reject the religion of your parents, accept the religion of your parents, or seek a different religion. To just blindly accept what you were raised with is just irresponsible or lazy. Exercise your mind, but do it prayerfully.

My parents are Catholic, I gave Catholicism up for lent years ago. In fact only one of my siblings still goes to a catholic church. I attend a baptist church, one sister, I'm not sure think it's non-denom, and one's agnostic leaning towards neo-pagan so no it's not imposed, we all chose our own path.
