Just more evidence that the bible is not the moral authority it and it's followers claim it to be. I think it also proves that the Bible religions are male written to be male dominated. Make no mistake - I am not justifying a woman who cheats on her husband and then claims rape. I just think that the bible has a biased slant to allow men to hold all the cards and the women, none.

This is actually a metaphor, like in english we say "rule of thumb" or "wild stab in the dark" is not violent, it's a guess or "getting high" has nothing to do with altitude. Those existed in ancient Hebrew as well.

Scream out loudly means she resisted in some way, or at least protested, in the field means she couldn't cry for help and she was raped and couldn't do anything about it. The woman who "didn't cry out" in the city meant she was a willing adulterous, and even if she had a loud orgasm she could still be stoned.

Rape was considered a dirty word and had to be spoken of with euphamisms.

Another example: If a man lies with another man, he's considered a sinner. This doesn't mean guys aren't allowed to lie down next to each other on a camping trip, it's talking about sex.

Just like Thomas Jefferson's "All men are created equal" does not deny that men are born with varying intelligence and abilities (and a few were born slaves, a few rich).

That doesn't mean it conforms with modern morality and sexual equality.

And of course, if the Judges were half as loony as our American Supreme Court, they would have worded it more literally.

I often wonder if the stoning was meant to be figurative too, the way Jesus seemed to be against the death penalty and all.

Look at John 8:3-11 when the Pharisees brought in a woman that had committed adulturey. The Law said she should be stoned according to the old testament but Jesus told them,"Whichever one of you that has committed no sin may throw the first stone at her." We have a mercyful god.

Here is the full context of the chapter

22:22 If a man be found lying with a woman married to an husband, then they shall both of them die, both the man that lay with the woman, and the woman: so shalt thou put away evil from Israel.

22:24 Then ye shall bring them both out unto the gate of that city, and ye shall stone them with stones that they die; the damsel, because she cried not, being in the city; and the man, because he hath humbled his neighbour's wife: so thou shalt put away evil from among you.

22:25 But if a man find a betrothed damsel in the field, and the man force her, and lie with her: then the man only that lay with her shall die

22:26 But unto the damsel thou shalt do nothing; there is in the damsel no sin worthy of death: for as when a man riseth against his neighbour, and slayeth him, even so is this matter:

22:27 For he found her in the field, and the betrothed damsel cried, and there was none to save her

22:28 If a man find a damsel that is a virgin, which is not betrothed, and lay hold on her, and lie with her, and they be found

22:29 Then the man that lay with her shall give unto the damsel's father fifty shekels of silver, and she shall be his wife; because he hath humbled her, he may not put her away all his days.


About a woman wearing men's clothes:


The woman shall not wear that which pertaineth unto a man, neither shall a man put on a woman's garment: for all that do so are abomination unto the LORD thy God.

These were rules given to the Jews, Jesus died to cover all this with his blood so we no longer have to live by these rules

Does the bible actually say that?? lol. Om, that's aweful. If that's true then why did god create people like helen keller what if she was raped. If someone was raping me I don't think i'd scream because i would be in shock. You're right what kind of god is this?

Think about that for a minute...

If she doesn't scream out loudly, do you really think it is rape? Ask anyone who has ever been raped, and I've known a few, they all said they screamed and cried and fought.

That law was made so that women couldn't fake being raped in order to get out of the punishment for adultery. Women would say they were raped when they would come out pregnant, cuckolding their mates. So as a way to stop that from happening God instituted a law which says that if you aren't crying out, you aren't being raped. Obviously mute people would not be stoned, let's not be unintuitive with our questions.

That's like another unintuitive question someone once asked me... "If a hermaphrodite has sex, is that homosexuality?"

that only applied if the rape occured in the city or other highly populated area. If she screamed, she would be heard--if she didn't scream then it was assumed that the act was consensual. Next!?

you do know that you don't take the Bible word for word. i read on some website, that according to the Bible, it's a sin for women to wear pants, but obviously there are many Christian women who wear pants including pastors! so obviously, there are some problems with the Book.
