You're right about the pagan origins of Easter. That is why, as one of Jehovah's Witnesses, I don't celebrate it.

Societies have always altered the traditions of other cultures and used them in their own way. Easter does not become a pagan holiday because some of the traditions may have come from somewhere else. The reason something is celebrated is what makes it what it is. It is a reflection on the death and resurrection of Jesus, thus making it Christian. If we were celebrating fertility you could call it pagan. If you are talking about something pointless like searching for Easter eggs, yeah that really turns it into a pagan ritual.

True. Easter is a pagan holiday. So is christmas. But the objective for Christians celebrating the days was because before they were Christians they were pagans. It was after these "pagans" become believers that they continued the tradition of celebration but for a different reason.
The day of His resurrection is'nt important. The fact that He did what He did, and was ressurected is what's important.
You have to understand that alot of those holidays are incorporated with Asia minor, Rome, etc. which is the same area Paul went on his missionary journeys to. You should try reading a little more on the history of holidays instead of reading part. And, that's even if the stuff your'e reading is'nt bias. Fact, my friend, outwieghs opinion.
I hope this tidbit was useful for you. Jesus saves!

Easy there are next you will have everybody trashing Christmas. Much of the world already spell it Xmas so they have already begun to squeeze Christ out of the picture.
Hey, there you go, a whole new forum. Go for it.
Maybe next you can outlaw religion all together.
I agree these traditions do have a similar background with pagan traditions, but if you can't think of an alternate date to offer when the world can pay respect to God and Jesus for all they have done for mankind then maybe you should just find a different subject to be negative about.
Harping like this only gives non believers more reason to stay as far away from religion as possible.
Did it ever occur to you that your holier-than-thou attitude might be a stumbling block to a non believer. Yeah, I'm sure God will be real happy with all the people you have turned away from Him.

Several holidays originated with paganistic traditions, including valentines day and halloween, but even tho I am aware of this, I think alot of people, christians included are not. Either way, I celebrate Easter as Resurrection Sunday when the Lord Resurrected, period. God knows my heart and knows I'm not following paganism. Blindfolds = ignorance of facts. God judges the heart of the person, not how intelligent they are. We are responsible for what we know and have been exposed to.

All Christian holidays are from pagan festivals. It's not taught in church that the church actually "stole" all of their holidays from pagan festivals. I'm guessing most Christians don't know that fact. It was believed by the early Catholic Church that if they turned pagan festivals into Christian ones then it would be easier for people to make the transition from paganism to Christianity.

It's hard to argue "reason" like that.
Would this pagan holiday fall on the same day every year? Does Easter fall on the same day every year? When is Easter celebrated? A clue for you. Never mind. You are the smart one aren't you?! I'm sure you can figure it out on your own.

Yes, He freed us with the stripes on His back and took on the sins of the world. So that you may have life eternal.
I believe I would be very careful what you say, it can come back to haunt you. There is one sin that is not forgivable, and that is speaking against or rejecting the Holy Spirit!
You should take off your blindfolds!

So King Darius required everyone in his kingdom to worship him, Daniel didn't, but bowed and prayed to God. He was of course thrown to the lion's, and obviously found favor in God's eye's.
So if others worship the 'godess of fertility', are you saying that I can't follow Daniels lead and pray to God on the same day?
God hears the prayers of His people, whatever day it is. I don't care what other religions claim as their day, I will worship God each day of the year. And I'll remember some of His actions on specific days, like Easter.

does the exact date matter? most christians know that it isn't the real day of resurrection
I think that the date isn't too important, but the reflection of christ's resurrection is what christians really focus on
