My cat has an extra claw on one of her front paws. It is not shaped the same as the rest. I cannot tell where the quick is. It grows like a normal claw. Just wondering if I should go ahead and clip it or not. I can't afford to take her anywhere right now, and it dosen't seem to bother her. Should I risk it? I don't want to hurt her.

You can't see the pink in the claw? Just clip the very tip off, no more. It sounds like she may be an incomplete polydactyl. It's a genetic mutation, she has a faulty gene which is why she didn't get extra claws.

Be very careful doing it, if it bleeds you will have to take her to the vet for cauterising. Might be better to have the vet take a look and do it for you.

No, it does not harm anymore than reducing your fingernails harm. you will possibly be able to desire to make helpful to not decrease into the fast it fairly is the purple, purple or black triangular formed component of the claw. which will harm the cat and might bleed, purely like reducing into the exterior of your finger might harm and bleed while reducing your fingernails. the final thank you to clip the cat's claws without hurting that is to have 2 human beings do the interest. Wrap the cat in a towel with one paw protruding. Have one individual carry the cat and soothe it on an identical time as the different individual presses on the paw to strengthen all claws. Use a clipper designed for clipping claws to rapidly and in a single circulation decrease the top off the claw. as quickly as you have achieved that paw, tuck it interior the towel and eliminate the subsequent paw, then artwork on that paw. while you're doing it suitable you will not harm your cats.

To be on the safe side clip in front of the arch of the claw. You can shine a flashlight under the claw and you will see where the blood vessel is, though sometimes it's more difficult with the extra claw because it is thicker. You don't have to clip a lot if you're concerned, just get some fingernail clippers and clip just the very tip to blunt it.

Go ahead, clip it, quicking her won't hurt too bad for too long, and it will only get harder later, and it may start bugging her. I would reccomend you only take a little bit of the claw first, you can always take more. If you try to take it all at once you are more likely to quick it, and you can't go back and start over once that happens.

If it is not bothering her I would leave it alone until you can take her to get it clipped and find out where the quick is. If it is bothering you and she sit still long enough maybe you can clip all the others and try to file the one.

If it doesn't seem to bother her then you can clip it but if there is an edge of uncertainty i would just cut the sharp part and don't get too close to her lil' paw.

use cat claw nippers, or just use a pair of fingernail clippers. its fine, just gently turn the claw so its sideways and clip about 1/8 inch or so off. i do it all the time to save my furniture!

Where you live, are you allowed to take animals into the pet stores? If so, take her in and see what they say. Maybe call ahead first to see if anyone can help you.

NO. It's a 'dewclaw'. You really should try and find out more about an animal before taking action. It's not bothering her, leave it be.

If it doesn't bother her, I'd leave it alone. Just keep check on it from time to time.
