I have attended a basic conversation in thai language. Now I live in singapore. Could anyone tell me any specific book to buy for learning thai as a second language. I don't feel like going to class. I prefer self-learning to going class.

I made flash cards to practice the alphabet and learn basic words. I create a flash card for each new word or phrase I learn.

I have yet to find a good book as most are geared for tourists. Also, the language CD programs are primarily for speaking.

The last time I was in Thailand I purchased a bunch of primary school books from a bookstore. They are somewhat useful yet you need a native speaker to guide you through them since they are 100% in Thai.

Is there a book you know well? Is it translated into Thai?

For example when I was learning Norwegian I bought a children's book in Norwegian....The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe which I knew well in English. So I basically knew the story. It helped learning to read Norwegian.....but I was also hearing it every day in Norway too.

It is dependent what language(s) you might have already. Thai isn't elaborate to audio system of tonal languages and the written variety displays the tones within the writing. To a European language speaker, of path it is extra elaborate. I heard greater than as soon as that many linguists recall the Basque language of Norther Spain/Southern France the toughest to be taught from scratch. But once more, the query is, who for precisely?

There are downloadable programs on the internet, and many books available, but books cann't translate the tones,EG a word spelt as car "kar," has 5 meanings depending on the tone, Tapes and CD's help but dedication is the key,

Good luck
