Lincoln shoe polish only comes in the 2oz cans. Before I can use even a decent amount, it cracks up and becomes pretty much useless. Any ideas how to keep it from cracking? I have tried keeping water in it but it seems to only make the top rust.

When I was in the military, we'd use the flame of a candle to melt the polish a little. It made it easier to run the polish into the leather really well and took care of the cracks your talking about.

Heat it on an electric stove on a burner using a very low setting until it becomes liquid. When it cools, it will become solid again, minus the cracks. I do this with Kiwi and it works fine.
