Considering the monster that this 'God' character is portreyed as, I think I'll stick to my own morality.
If the concept of deity described in the Bible was true, this universe would have been destroyed ages ago. There was no redeeming quality to that myth.

Jephthah is the Judge who before battle, in prayer told God that should God lead the people to victory, then he would sacrifice the first thing to come out of his tent when returning home. His forces were victorious, and on returning home his daughter, his only offspring was the one who came out of his tent first to greet him. So Jephthah sacrificed his daughter to God. The point of the account of Jephthah is to show that people at the premonarchial times of Israel did what they thought was right in their own eyes (much like people do today) and that God is not to bargained or bartered with, especially since he had already told Jephthah that he would have the victory.

I do know who Jephthah is.
Jephthah was a judge in Israel who prayed that if God would give him victory, he would give the first person to come out of his house to meet him to God. He was given the victory, but his only daughter happened to be the first one to come out of the house. He wanted to break his vow, but she persuaded him not to. So she went to live at God's house in Shiloh, and she never married.
In what way are you saying that we should be like Jephthah? What I got from it is that when you make a vow to God, you should pay it.

If God didnt punish people for their sins and allowed them to do what they want. Think how harsh this world would be. We would be so deep in the depths of evil that this world would be dark and extremely corrupted. Just think about it.......If God wasnt just when punishing people. He would have to apologize to sadam and gomorrah and those cities would still exist and people would want to go there instead of Vegas. Vegas is the new city of sodom or gomorrah. The bible is simply this. God's history with Man. Plain and Simple. If you do not get this. You wont get any of it.

I 'm not a Christian. Read my blog for more information that might help. Christians are judgmental hypocrites. They choose not to answer questions if they can't be or think they are 100% right.

No. We are all here to be ourselves. Each of us has a different lesson to learn and a different cross to bear (so to speak).
Peace!
