Don't be offended... food is about creativity. A tried and true recipe is only so because of the settings you have served it in. That is why there are no universal 'tried and true" recipes! Give the change a chance or you risk ruining your own tried and true recipe!

Depends what I'm making, but generally no. In the matter of your scenairo, my dear Brie, not very much, no. I'd just add it,
provided the addition isn't something I hate, such as bananas or roast pig. I happen to like spinach, by the way. Ever try fried squash blossoms?
Blini
Ingredients:
4.5 glasses (7 cups) flour
4 glasses (4 1/2 cups) milk
25 g (1 1/2 tbsps) yeast
25 g (1 1/2 tbsps) butter
100 g (1/2 cup) cream
2 eggs
2 tsps sugar
1 tsp salt
Preparation:
Dissolve half the flour, the yeast and butter in milk and let it rise. Beat up the dough, add the rest of the flour, salt and egg yolks ground with sugar. Beat again, add the beaten egg whites and cream, let the dough rest and then begin to bake.

If it were me. No I would not be offended at all when cooking for others I would like all the constructive criticism I can get but if i tried the addition to the recipe and did not like it I would simply not take the suggestion and be honest about it to the person who made the suggestion.

Not really, I like to accomodate my guests, plus I like to try new things. Also, the suggestion might make the tried and true recipe even better. If not, well, you already know what works! lol.

No not at all.
What you do is smile and listen to there suggests politely. Then when you make your whatever ignore what they said 100 percent and do what you always have done.
If you do it there way and it turns out horrible, believe me, you will be the one everyone frowns on.....you will be taking the responsibility.

No. If I thought that their suggestion would not go well with my dish, I would tell them. But if thought it may not matter to add what they suggest. I would do it.

No. This is how we learn new ways of cooking and new recipes. If I did not like it--I would not repeat and if asked, I would tell them that I did not care for it.
