I apologize for the somewhat ignorant question, but I am working on a presentation in Impress (Open Office's "Powerpoint") and would like to know how to add individual text blocks without using the templates that are located to the right.

(I have a photo on the right and a text block on the left (from one of the templates) but would like to add a line of text underneath the photo.)

Is there a specific tool for this? This is my first time using this program (or anything like it) and I am just not quite sure what to do. All answers are appreciated, and if I am being too vague, let me know!

Yeah, you can add a text box where ever you feel like on any slide. Go to Insert-Text Box-(most likely) Horizontal click where you want to start the text box and a empty text block appears, then start typing, you can move it into any postion and make it larger and smaller as you wish after you type in words, I say to type something in it because if not and you try and move it and click outside of it, it will disappear. Or you can use Word Art on the Drawing toolbar. Or there is a Text Box icon on the drawing toolbar that is right next to the circle there are two...horizontal and vertical
